I'm looking at getting a set of these pressed plates for the Polo.

Has anyone bought from this seller?

Have they passed an MOT ok? I know pressed plates in the correct font, spacing and refelctive background are legal but as far as I know you dont have to send any reg. documents off to get these (as you do with dubmeister etc.) so I'm wondering if i will get any trouble with mot/police etc.

I would be very careful about buying pressed plates off eBay that say they are legal because ash(POvwLO) or as some of you know him as the kid who always asks about AFHs got stopped today and got a £60 as they wasn't apparently reflective

How unlucky is that...to be stopped in the daytime for non reflective plates .

@ joegraham...I suppose you could ask the guy selling them if they are reflective or not then...

I bought a set off ebay and used them for over a year with no problems, however not off that seller so i couldn't say.

Just make sure you check all the legal requirements, and if you can see an example plate which shows these requirements met you should be all good?

I guess I will just have to check as best as I can.

My MOT is only a month or two away so if it fails because of them I will just send them back haha.

i got mine off the same person that coreymk3 did and i haven't had any problem with them

While were on the subject can anyone remember the seller that was doing them at E38? As I want another set for my G. They're spot on, well happy with them. Never kept his card though

Yeah i wouldn't use anyone now other than pro pressed plate teams, I think dubmister do some and also at VW shows there will be stalls that sell them with the correct spacing,reflective and also font sizing where they can make them and put the legal badge on, So if police or MOT's try nicking you for them you show them the markings..

I'll be putting my OLD NORMAL plates on , BORING.

PS: Mine we're from a similar seller to that link, They said 100% legal but still got me!!!!!!

If the plate has a little stamp engraved somewhere at bottem left i think ..Along the lines of

•White front plate (to British Standard BS AU 145d)

•Yellow rear plate (to British Standard BS AU 145d)

Thus meaning they are legal .. I got mine off EUROPL8 as he gives you a choise of legal font or show plates!

Jamie's right, My car came with show plate with the D badge on them. I was like we're getting pulled for sure!

Swapped for my what i thought legal plates!!! :(

You said your worring about your mot but wouldnt it take all of 1 minutes to swap your pressed plates for normal ones before your MOT :p

Also my mate bought some from a stand at edition38 and he showed us some paperwork from the DVLA or something giving him permission to sell these plates as LEGAL.

looked legit to em and they had all the corresponding BS marks etc.

Yeah I know they are easy enough to swap, my old plates are fooked though, cracked and the water has got in behind the laminate so rather than have to buy 2 new sets I would prefer if they will pass an MOT :)

I got mine, took them to the poloice station, got them checked and they were road legal, i got a note to cover my arse for any smart arse cops trying to pull me up on them and was sent on my way :)

I'm not 100% where i got mine but I've never had a single issue and I've been pulled, MOT'd etc.

I had a defect notice for UK font pressed plates because he said the alloy plates don't reflect as well as the plastic,

Mine has an awful plastic reflective layer on it which dirt gets behind.... i need new ones

I had a set on my MK1 golf that I bought from the GTi Fest one year. Was only £30 and I never got pulled for them

They didn't even have the makes name on the bottom and they were german font.

No idea how I got away with it after watching the traffic cops show and they were pulling all sorts of cars for bad plates.

Those plates don't look like they're an english alternative to german plates they look more like classic car plates and if they are they wont be reflective (well not as reflective).

I had german plates on my old 6n and never had any problems, I did get pulled for my lights being out and he commented on the plates saying that he couldn't book me cos the letters were the right size but his computer won't recognise them, so if it gets stolen there's probably no chance of finding it cos it won't flag up on there computer if it drives past.

I got some pressed plates for my daily at the time (fabia estate) and my polo. They looked reflective although I never really checked them at night. They were normal font and properly spaced. I still have them on my saloon now 5 years later. Got some german plates when they became popular but I got scared of number plate police.
