1985 Mk2 Golf 1.3 CL for CONVERSION?

Featured Replies

Hi All. So I bought this last month for my girlfriend to drive as she couldn't get insured on anything bigger engined. As we are no longer seeing each other, I am wishing I bought a Mk2 GTI instead as I miss the power of a 16v.

I'll start with the good points: It has full MOT and full tax. All advisories on MOT were sorted (windscreen wipers, exhaust blow)

It is on raceland coilovers which are a pretty good ride considering their price and is on recently re painted VW steels with a fairly low profile tyre, not a huge balloon tyre.

It has the full blue and yellow check interior from a GTI with a GTI big spline steering wheel. It comes with a JVC Mp3 playing cd player and good speakers.

It is in classic red and is pretty straight.

It does on average 40mpg (thats combining city driving with the motorway and is a true figure worked out from filling the tank and driving it until empty, rather than any dodgy guesses)

It's a 4 speed but cruises at 70mph nice and comfortably and is quite nippy for a 1.3.

Has recently had a full service and cambelt was done at 72,500 miles.

It has currently done 101k miles (will go up, daily drive atm)

Single light grille (eyebrow was thrown away) and comes with a gti grille for anyone interested.

Has the split windows being an early golf.

Just had a mk3 golf gti heater matrix installed before i got the car.

Bad points.

Door card is warped on drivers side due to drain holes being blocked in door. I sorted it but obviously the damage was done.

Heather matrix pipes need reconnecting to the new heater matrix - I haven't got around to doing this yet and i lost one of the spring clips. It's currently bypassed.

Drivers side window mech is broken but I could sort this for the buyer because it's only £13 and 5 minutes job.

Some wear on drivers seat, minor.

Push button start fitted (could be factory, looks it not sure though)

Some crusty bits on front part of arches. Nothing major.

paint needs a mop. I have started to cut back the paint on some parts and it comes up gleaming. The car was left standing a while before the guy who sold it to me owned it. being red it just oxidised a bit, nothing a good mop wont correct!

Drives well and with a bit of love could be awesome! Drop it on some 13's!

More pics to come when the rain stops! As I say eyebrow is gone.

I am looking for swaps on a GTI or driver/low mk1/mk2/mk3 polo or other classics??

Otherwise I'd like £850 and I wont move on this because ebay will see this easy! These are sought after for new (younger) drivers and conversions as logbook will say 1.3 ;).
