6N2 sidelight bulb

Featured Replies

May be a bit of a silly question, but how do I access the 6N2 headlight to change the sidelight bulb? Can't seem to get the rear cover off to access the bulb holder.

Many thanks,

Rich

Theres a metal clip; it sort of slides away to the left or the right (depending on the light). It needs a push, and then the cover comes off.

The bulb then pulls out. But pull the holder, not the cables!

Thanks Adam, should have mentioned that this is a GTI, so it appears to be different?

For the gti you have to remove the bumper and take out the lights. It's not that difficult to do but be prepared for an afternoons work.

There are few guides on here in the FAQ section.

I changed the sidelight bulbs on my gti without removing the bumper.

You need to remove the indicators, and air pipes from around the light, then there is 3 small screws that hold the backing plate on, remove them and your in.

Basically the same on the passenger side except you have to move the battery to give you some room.

Also, if your changing the side light bulbs I would change them to some good quality led lights and also change the other bulbs, so you need;

D2s bulbs. These are from hong long so may take a week or two to get here, but these will make a big difference if the current ones are over two years old.

H1 55w bulb you will need two of these, they are not flashy ones with bells and whistles but they do the job and do them well, I have used these a few time.

501 led warm white, or 501 1w led (bluish)

I have all of these siting around if your interested.

Thanks chaps. It all seems to be working again without me doing anything, so I'm going to leave well alone at the moment!

Sorry to bump old thread

Anyone got a guide on how to remove the bumper?

No guide as such, but there are three t20 screws in each arch, four alone the slam panel, one under each indicator, and one under each lower side grille. There may also be four plastic clips underneath, but usually break when removing anyway.

Then just slide the bumper forwards.
