Hopefully some people with experience of fitting Gaz coilovers can confirm I have everything in the right order before fitting...

Number 1: Spring followed by spring retaining cap

Number 2: Thick washer. I believe this is because top mount won't sit flush on the black spring retaining cap from step 1?

Number 3: VW top mount. Sits down onto the washer in step 2. Question...do I need a castle nut to go down inside the top mount at this point? Gaz didn't supply one but I assume I'd need one.

Number 4: Once the top mount is fitted then the whole assembly goes up inside the strut tower. What remains of the damper rod gets topped off by the standard VW pressed steel cap that sits in the engine bay and a nylock nut (the one you see in step 3?)

Doesn't fit inside the top mount like the OEM slotted nut would. It's just marginally over large...

the coilovers should of come with thin nut

AMD fitted mine, don't remember details of how it went together but it wasn't any more complicated than the standard stuff.

Didn't cost me that....are they worth it? Remains to be seen on the hills if they generate grip and damp well. Hoping they don't introduce any bump steer issues. I'd really like Bilstens but the lack of adjustment and what not made me think about saving them for later. Hope to some day run Mk1 Golf Bilstiens and lots of other trickery but these should be fine for now.

PhilJ told me I'll need an OE castle nut, so time to go find one, hope it's same thread pitch!

if you can't - then by end of next week i can supply castle nuts at £1.50 each new (with some luck package iwll have arrived then) thread on them is m12x1.5

that spacer is just because the existing top mounts won't go up to the spuds on the 2 1/4" top mount.

mine has weird bespoke ones to solve that that originally that i had to re-machine completely to be able to fit the bilsteins, as they have whopping 34mm ends on the stanchions.

My billies came with a really thin nut rather than using the castle nut also - you'll find its more than likely the same thread pitch, my Avos and Bilsteins both were.

You can choose the supplied rate, so if they are too stiff it is the fault of the buyer. I bought front and rears separately and some extra springs so they cost more than one might normal pay and they were still less than £700...prob. nearer £600-650.

275lb/in on front which is pretty stiff. 165's on rear which are quite soft. Fine starting place though.
