Hi guys, I have a polo 9n and I'm looking at smoothing the front bumper a little, one part I'm trying to work out is the headlight washers, are they easily removable and would it be straight forward enough to smooth the area where they pop up from or just a lot simpler to paint ad they are?

Also I'm after the number plate recess smoothing on the bump strip, is this a plastic welding jobby?

just disconnect the washers and then smooth over the hole? not sure if it will pass an MOT like that though youll have to check.

you can plastic weld but its more common to just use heaps of filler, but bear in mind filler cracks. however, your number plate recess isnt very deep so you'll get away with filler by the looks of things.

I think washers will be fine re mot as I haven't got hid's think they were just part of the winter pack.

heaps of filler will just sink/crack, even on the number plate recess you will get sinking

it all needs plastic welding properly and a thin skim of flexible bumper filler

if you have xenons then it will be an mot failure with no headlight washers

whereabouts are you btw?

I'm in Coventry, pretty sure they aren't xenons, not overly bright

I've seen plenty of people use filler and if you take your time itll work fine I'm sure of it..

i've been in the trade for over 10 years, filler is not fine whether you take your time or not, it WILL sink/crack

filler is designed to be used on nothing deeper than 1-2mm, plate recess is deeper than that

but what do i know, its only my job

Ima baker and I know the smaller the less filed the better, even a lick can sink over time it seems.

Fair enough!! Just saying, my friend did his bootlid in filler and so far so good, but it's you're job and you know best so fair do's!

his boot will sink/crack in no time tbh and on warm/hot days as the metal of boot and the filler expand/contract at different rates you will be able to see the outline of where he has smoothed over
