I have a 6n polo (1995) and have recently started noticing a squeak coming from the engine. It literally sounds like crickets. It will only begin to happen after the engine is warm and I have been driving on the motorway/dual carriageways for about an hour. After the noise has started it will only stop when the engine has been off for a few hours. The fan is working and it never overheats.

It doesn't get any worse depending on speed (it will still carry on when the car is stationary), and will continue squeaking at the same speed in or out of gear.

Any ideas will be appreciated :)
