as i was saying i wasnt at all happy with it so i had to strip it... and not just the paint i put on it lol

so after using thinners to get rid of my paint it looked like this.

CAM00043.jpg

Then attacked it with a wire cup brush

CAM00044.jpg

and abit more till it looked like this..

CAM00045.jpg

had to fit it cus i was needed to do lifts for peoplelol

CAM00046.jpg

and still wasnt happy so off again and this is what it looks like now.

CAM00047.jpg

now just the task of more sanding down and then I'm in two minds spend the time sanding it through the grit range and polishing it? or a garage fresh back to a standard finish?

opinions please

Black always looks awesome, but polished could look good too :p id try polished just to be different, and if you don't like it you could always paint it again!

  • Author

now some may think thats allot however take a look at the condition of these!

CAM00058.jpg

CAM00059.jpg

see these are unmarked uncurbed and have in total.... 2 2mm scratches that would props polish out lol

soo got back and fitted them

CAM00060.jpg

:) sound as mate nice meeting you, love the car!

  • Author

cheers bud :D good luck selling your 6n like hope you find a mk3 again.

wheel trims looking good mate. what steels have you got?

  • Author

cheers bud and under the trims are just the genesis ones the 5 spoke jobbies. like the gt ones only narrower

well picked up some wheels yestaday like i said so got some pics today in the daylight

CAM00067.jpg

not a bad width better than my steels anyway

this is them

CAM00065.jpg

The silver one also needs stripping

CAM00066.jpg

the two black ones i dont know what paint was used but i figured a wipe down with thinners would take it off and wasnt expecting the original paint to be in such good nick really lol

so after an hour the two black one looked like..... cant tell in the pics but they are quite glossy too

CAM00069.jpg

CAM00070.jpg

CAM00073.jpg

:D

in white? does anyone know if this was an option on something? seems odd but it is original or seems to be :D

Edited by v-dub-ee-dan

Wheels are looking good mate, i've never seen a set in white so no idea on that, but i reckon it could look good with the green! You gonna be buying new tyres or swapping your current ones?

oh and good going on the frying pan, get the outer lip black and spray your rocker cover too!

Edited by coreymk3

One of the best colours these came in imo

Late spec smoked rear lights would look the bomb against that green

  • Author

been looking to see what they would of came off but havnt yet lol cheers bud ano the engine bay has still got a fair bit of work to be done.

and yeah i love the colour and i duno i like the orange against the green but late spec lights would look awesome.

however i dont think ill change them since all the lights still have the original reg etching on them :)

oh and probably going to get new rubber for them i think :)

Edited by v-dub-ee-dan

Didn't these wheels come on Mk1 Golf GTIs?

Really is a nice looking car this, I have to agree some late spec rear lights will really set it off and will look awesome with the green. I also feel the amber indies on the front look great onit aswell, people seem to always go for clears and imo they just look so bland

I look forward to seeing it on the new wheels, great looking wheels them 8-)

yeah Mk1 GTI's i believe! new rubber sounds the better option, look forward to seeing them on!

  • Author

yeah they are the mk1 golf gti rims also known as tarantula's

hmmm you have me interested to see what they look like now lol might have to find some un etched ones then etch my reg on them, got to keep the originality of the car.

I did a trial fit last night to see and i liked them they stood out bud didnt look to in your face :)
