did have a build thread on here ages and ages ago but seem to of dissapeared

it used to look like this but after i crashed it and then the gearbox failed i decided to take it off the road and tart it up abit as it was getting a little tatty round the edges

now when i say tart it up thats really all i was going to do but its gone out of control a fair bit

first off i had the washer jets, sills,rear badge, boot handle, seams under rear lights all welded up for smoothing

next up was the bumpers pritty standard stuff top grilles and rear tow recess deleted

after that a few new pannels were purchased and it was off for some new colour

stuck with the standard dragon green for the colour as tbh i dont think vw have made a better colour

this leaves us up to the begging of this year where i lost the plot a bit and decided to do an engine conversion

i thought i would try and do somthing different and fit a ABf in the surprisingly small engine bay

as you can see its rather tight and there is no way of mounting it instead of making custom mounts i thought there had to be somthing about that would work i have decided to use the mk1 golf chassis mounts

slight bit of modding are hey presto

mounts are only tacked in at the moment but progress is being made

and the main reason it still not finished is my sensible daily driver which some of you may of seen at UD this year

Love the progress mate, and the colour is tasty, starting to like dragon greens polos, and the red rears just compliment the rear nicely

I have a couple of things to finish off, namely exhaust and driveshaft, and few little bits here and there, hoping to have it done for the summer but will have to see how I get on as I only get a couple hours on a saturday morning to work on it each week I havnt done a build thread just yet, was going to get it all finished then get one up

me, my mate and a welder from caterpillar made some custom mounts made from scratch and used some 30% uprated rubber boobins / doughnuts from a capri v6, used the standard gearbox mount as a template for where it bolts to gearbox and made a new gearbox mount as it was a better fit in the little space available

looks great mate . i was thinking of doing a 2.0 16v conversion in mine with a bit of goodness to make it a bit quicker , but as you said was unsure on the engine mount side of things . considering buying an ibiza gti and just swaping everything over into my 6n , my be a bit quicker and ill have the rear disk conversion then and everything else i need . ill be watching this to see how you get on with it . good luck . but your going in a bit too deep on the mounts mate there is no need to mount it like that, there is many of ways to mount it using the oem 6n mounts.

looks like you gouna be doing alot of welding, take a look at my build and you will see how simple it is to to it with the mounts that exsist on you oem mounts.

just a bit of help for you mate its all love so dont take it the wrong way

As for the mouts i gess your right but seam welding what i have now on or making mount like you have isnt much work in it

On another note iam trying my best to make the abf look as tho its meant to be there hench using standard vw mounts ect

haha dont really talk about it as i normaly forget i have it tbh

well made a bit of a start on the engine bay at the weekend started by removing the dash and heater out to remove the wiring loom from the engine bay which was a ballache

next up was to start up with a small bit of engine bay smoothing, altho i fully understand the amount of work that goes into a fully smoothed bay the whole one wire look doesnt really do it for me!

so i have decided to make mine look alot like it did as standard with a bit of a twist i gess, so i nipped off all the unwanted studs and started to smooth off the spot weld marks in the turrets and bulk head along with removing all the sealer that is sprayed everywhere

that is all for now hoping to make a start plugging all the extra holes that vw put in for some reason and i will be boxing off the tops of the chassis legs

yea there is a few updates been with out a computer for a while so haven't been able to get on line much

got pritty much most of the engine bay smoothed now and what a utter ballache of a job that is hoping it will be worth it

drivers side inner wing with all holes brackets ect removed

whist at EE this year i spotted somthing on a mk1 golf that i was kean to try on the polo

also see here the bulkhead has had all extra holes deleted except the on for the loom as i want to leave that on show

next up was to make the top for the drivers leg

then weld in brace bar and top for the leg

the brace bars are welded to the top of the leg (not the top piece) which also has been reinforeced at that area

nothuing is yet completely finished yet as iam still doign alot of grinding and welding in the bay so excuse some of the imperfections you can see in some of the pics these will be sorted once all the power tools are put away

after fitting up the driveres side it suddenly came to me that i hadent tryed the front end on for a while so i thourght i should dry build it and ad make sure everything clears in the bay

close but it clears

right onto the passenger side: well thius side is quite behind compaired to the drivers mainly due to the mount

now as much as i think this moutn would of been fine i was having slight fears about how far forward the mount was sitting ass it was basicly hanging off the front of the leg, and with a notch to clear the gearbox i had visions of the leg breaking/bending

so i call up a mate of mine and got him to take a peak after a bit of scribbling we off to knock up a new mount

and here pritty much the finished item

both pieces will end up being boxed just need to sort the mounting plate out now as the part on the leg will be removalble so you can replace the bush if you need to

well thats pritty much it for now
