What tyre on a 6.5j rim?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just got hold of some Audi wheels for my polo and need some advice on what tyre width they need and size. It's a polo 9n and the the offset is et42 , and I'm not sure but if it tucks in I'd rather run correct width tyres just a lower profile...what width tyre is right and what profile options do I get?

...if not I've seen on tyrestretch.com I can use 165/45 but want to avoid stretc if possible due to dangers etc.

Any advice would be great

Thanks

On another post I've seen that a polo 9n should use a wheel with et30 - et35. The new wheels are et42....

...does this mean that the wheel will scrub the inside of my car I.e where the hub is? Will this mean I need to buy spacers to move the rim out the car but then use stretched tyres to tuck back in the tread in the arch???

I'm obviously confused...

Cheers

Had a look on the bay and it seems the stock alloys are 6j and with et43

My wheels are 6.5j with et 42... Using the off set calculator apparently I get:

7mm less clearence inside

5mm extended out.

So I assume I could get away with small spacers and no stretch. Any tyre sizes would be great still?

175/50

195 45 all day mate

For me it depends on the profile, which in turn depends on the diameter of the wheel. I'd go for a tyre a little narrower than the Audi had, but without knowing the size of the wheel i can't be picky.

Offset though, well adaptors are far chunky, you're gonna be over an inch out with no inner clearance problems at all if you need some - the Audi wheel bolts straight on then?

Cheers for the ideas guys. 195 45 look good cheers and plenty of em!

And yer so your saying the inner clearence should be fine?

The wheels specs are:

- 5x100 pcd

- 16 inch

- 6.5J

- et 42

So yer bolt straight on with my stud pattern being the same.

What I'm asking then to narrow it down can the offset should be fine so I will be ok to use a non stretch tyre? Then what do people reccomend for a decent size? I know price differs on tyre dimensions..

Cheers guys
