Hey...

As most know, my 6n is now written off, and everyone raves about earlier polo's, so I bought this the day after I crashed in a bit of a rush, but its pretty solid, few little bits of rust..but its a good base to build upon :)

Spec is pretty standard atm..

Alpine White

GT/G40 arch trims and strips

G40 RA's

Clear indicators

Smoked side repeaters

Lowered 60/60ish on some PhilJ budget TA technix shit suspension stuff

Genesis seats

Genesis or GT clocks..I dunno, has a rev counter anyway!

So it has a few niggly bits I'm sorting out, and have also treated it to some new bits :)

Basically I didnt want to buy a modded car, as I know of so many accounts of people who just shouldnt work on cars, modding their own..but anyway.

Needs:

Passenger mirror glass

Fuel pump whining Cleaned it out and has fixed itself

Backbox broken Replaced

Rear top mounts assembled wrongly Assembled properly, new bump stops and raised a notch.

Front calipers not sliding properly, uneven wear on pads New discs and pads, all cleaned up.

Thermostat stuck open Stat Replaced

Coolant warning light flashes on occasions

Odd wheel bolts (mixture of tapered and radius) Sorted

Just been generally checking it over and such, working through it!

Have done so far:

Air filter

Plugs

Coolant

Stat

Front Top mounts

Rear bump stops

Front indicators

Side repeaters

Cleaned fuel pump (need to replace filter)

Adjusted rear brakes

Adjusted rear wheel bearings (were too tight)

Replaced discs and pads, cleaned up calipers so pads can move

Changed steering wheel

Changed head unit (wiring was a mess, fitted standard ISO connectors and got rid of mess)

And a few other bits and bobs, cant think!

The paint on this car is pretty clean, measured it with a depth gauge earlier and its original bar 2 small areas. However its very contaminted and flat, so will be getting a effort of a clean with snowfoam/clay/compounds/polish/sealant etc. In good time though.

Its a nice little car really, and the plans are:

Chassis:

New TCAs

Polybushed TCA's

G lader ARB blocks

PPP stage 2 subframe

OEM/Poly beam bushes

H&R 70/60 Spring and shock kit

New top mounts

New rear drums

Wheel bearings all round

New wheel cylinders + brake shoes

G40 calipers

Some form of uprated discs

Some form of uprated pads

Braided hoses

(Basically will be pretty fresh underneath!)

Engine:

Fit the AEE from 6n on carbs

Possible raised compression

Poly mounts

Trial the current gearbox and see how it goes

New 4-2-1 (current bent and dented from crash)

Eventually ITB's

Have a SS system made up

Exterior Shizzle:

Dewiper rear

DETAIL

Paint sills (below lower trim)

Standard (chrome) VW rear badge

Either chrome front badge, or badgless grill with VW motorsport badge offset

New number plates (pressed?)

Aero wiper blades - repaint wiper arms

Wheels iv just bought..read on.

Interior stuff:

Get some GT/G40 door cards

Oil temp + pressure gauges

Mount AFR gauge somewhere properly

Maybe a bracket/construction solely for extra switches/choke etc

Fire extinguisher (plumbed to engine bay)

So yeah...interested to see what all this early polo fuss is about so hey :)

Exhaust was knocking a lot due to where it had broke, decided to change it about 9pm last night and naturally something had to break!

Tbh the exhaust has actually made a noticeable difference to performance, I was rather surprised!

At work...put 450 miles on this in the past week haha :(

Gave it a very quick wash earlier..looks quite shiny but the paint is so flat and contaminated (it looks cloudy!)

Interior...

Momo from 6n, genesis seats + headunit fitted

Picked these up this eve...are 14x6

Will be running 185/50, probably Conti's

Are going to be refurbed in shadow chrome, which will hopefully look nice :)

Am also going to space these a bit, but will decided when fitted how much etc!

I also got a base plate to start making another inlet..and will be getting some bodies this week..however will be a long term thing really!

Will also be fitting central locking at some point :) all in good time.

I might try getting all the suspension and the engine swapped ready for Poloshow...will just have to see as I have a LOT of college work on!

I had my other thread deleted and have started another due to epic amounts of spam and such!

Going for Polybushes as I think they'll be a bit more compliant than the G lader nylon items, however will run the ARB blocks for downpipe clearance :)

Can you get hold of new rear top mounts for these still?

Running alot of power through a standard exhaust will be nice and raspy!

My afh mk2 sounded lovely with a standard, just didnt look too nice! Lol

Nice tidy looking car there, such a shame about the 6n but i think your AEE will be much more suited to the lighter mk3, so youll enjoy the car more =D

Yeah like I said it is tidy, few little shitty bits and a few areas that look as though theyve been touched in with tipex, but with a good clean it should gleam :)

Just need to be careful as the paint is quite thin to be going at it with a mop !

Just ordered some dash speakers, some 6x4's for the rear and some speaker cable :) and a mirror glass :)

Just had a long phone call, can get some specced how I like, whatever springs and shorter rods for being a bit lower, £750 but about a month turn around.

And springs and shocks just leave you a bit stuck IMO.

I've totalled up the ones i'm fabbing up and they're about that price.

The differance is the springs/shocks are from "rally-designs" so i wouldnt call them budgets!

Well i wouldn't advise it if you can't weld no, or have no fabricating skills

No one knocked the gaz kits, and to be honest the price isn't too much taking into account the quality of their work and what they're actually making,

However £750 is a lot of money!, something that can be more than halved if you know what your doing.

What are you gonna use the car for? Buying coilovers is seems a bit of a waste of money if your running a frame. You'd be better off putting the money into a H&R kit and putting the saved money into something else.

But I want more of a drop than 60mm and adjustability?

I'm capable of making coilovers, I just don't want to at the minute.

At least with the gaz I can run shorter rods so I don't start bottoming dampers out, choose a softer spring for comfort, set my corner heights more accurately, adjust to a height I like not what just comes out the box...etc etc.

Lot of money yes, but I'm struggling to find the will just to buy a spring and shock kit, a decent one is still over £400, and you're stuck with that, at least I have some adjustability with coilovers, if the options there why not take it?
