It's more the fact the sandblaster I have access too doesn't have a nice constant flow, it kinda pulsates, the anchor brackets took about 45 mins each and the blaster was behaving itself haha!

Just had a slim rad fan arrive, off to VW now to get some caliper rebuild kits and a few other bits, then GSF for more, & due lots of packages, will update tonight when have finished work and come home to lots of boxes aha

Also intend on finishing my lower brace tonight :)

Just spent an hour and a half at TPS because they fucked up my order again, never choose the young salesman who doesn't know what a car is.

GSF had a fuckup so none of my bits are in today.

Came home to several cards saying packages couldn't be delivered even though my lazy nice person of a brother is here.

Gr not my day! Might not attempt to finish lower brace will probably set the car on fire welding

Its amazing how some people can fuck an order up soo badly!

I'm always quite amused at how they ask for my Reg number. No mate I'm asking for a component for THIS engine Code from THIS year and model car, get your book out and let me have a look. Your computer lies to you!

One motorfactors has given up asking for a Reg when I ring up, He must have a sharp ear, because no prompting just retro VW related enquiry and I get "is this a real car.. or something your making?" Haha. Caught him out time and time again on Discs for the G40 on reg number.. "oh I should have those in stock they're only solid ones"... get the book out Dave your wrong again!

But TPS/VW genuine parts makes it even more wounding. You've accepted you have to take their trunchion sized dong prices to get brand new parts as fitted in 1980/90 and then they go and get it all wrong scuppering your plans for assembly.

Interestingly had a better success rate on OE genuine parts through an independant motor factors than down at the main dealers. Never a wrong part.. yet (and I will really need it to be right the time they do fuck it up, now iv talked it up).

And had the Postie/white van turn up and not even ring or knock, just.. we missed you straight through the door, No I missed you! Chased them up the road before now.

Other than these misfortunes.. build looks like its going well! 8-)

Hahah yeah I say and went through every individual item with them just to ensure they grasped it!

Was turning down my alternator pulley this eve and the tool post snapped on the shit Chinese lathe and wrote the pulley off haha, today is a bad day!

Engine will be back together the weekend!

Should drop things off for powdercoating Monday.

Keep forgetting about college mind :/ haha

love how you were turning it down. i just got the grinder out

Today has just generally been a bad day.

Gotta go pick up some packages in the morn and order from GSF.

If I get chance I'll whip the pulley off my spare alternator and hope the lathe doesn't shit itself again haha.

Ain't got my brace done either! Gay!

Of what buddy?

Tbh most the damage was the bit I was turning away. It's just when it fired it out the chuck it damaged the ribbed bit too haha; after the hundreds of jobs Iv done on a lathe have never had that!

  • Author

Ok so GSF still ain't got my bits, they're coming from Birmingham and aint sending it do they've had to put my order on different orders because they're being dicks, hopefully have tomorrow.

Started to clean up drive flanges to paint

And make some brake pipes for beam

Proper brake pipe not copper

37db3d52.jpg

And cleaned oil pickup, I might clean its mating face up with some compound on a surface table to ensure the oil pump backlash is ok!

They're fucking adjustable yeahh boy!

Hahaha.

Copper lines only rated to 100 bar IIRC, not that il ever brake that hard.

Polished would look good but keeping on top of it haha copper soon goes shit, polish the lacquer? ;)

  • Author

Yeah copper would be epic fail as pure copper lol

^^ Copper would be fine. kunifer is the zinc-copper compound. So nice and easy to use, but a bitch to get straight

Bugger about those top mounts, really not keen on camber adjustable. How do you plan on getting equal camber on each side? Oh, and you'll need new half nuts. M12 x1.25

Because I'll be trying to the the caster/camber somewhere equal side to side when I do the wheel alignment.

As you seen on my 6n I can use a 4 wheel alignment rig accurate to 1/60th of a degree lol.

Ah I need to know how to fit them tbh, everyone else seems to have probs. why don't they come with the right bits lol

Twas a personal joke

I dont get it :? And i found it offensive

Regarding your topmounts, put the spings/shocks all back together as per usual, but sack the castle nut. Put the bearing on and secure with one of the half nuts. Put the poly mount up the turret, and then your strut up the turret. Add lowering cap from the engine bay side and secure with second half nut with washer underneath. Simples. Well, thats how I've done it :?

Yeah, using the laser alignment is all very well, but its the hassle of adjusting the camber/castor that bothers me. They're not exactly easy to get at, and it means lowring the suspension every time you want to alter it. Will just take time I guess

Anyway fuck off my build thread

& Simon put your science away. We ain't a school now

No arguining, 3 moderators online and the forum has gained a new sub-forum. behave.

Stop chatting sh1t on people's build threads!!! You (amongst others) make them crap to read and full of utter shite. Use facbook/msn/ the phone or smoke signals to talk to your mates.

Enough build threads have been deleted/modified/split recentley for this reason- please don't make this another (again).

Thanks,

Nah it's damaged it beyond fixing mate it's just not pictured.

Mounts were about £80 with postage
