Heard good reviews about them .. I had 185/55s on before and they scrubbed, so doubt 50's would fit my wheels :( lol

Might do at some point before Christmas

if it a taper fitting your are going to re tap - it sounds like a 1/8npt thread not a metric thread. normally oil temp sensors are 1/8" npt which is what it could be for

  • Author

Its a metric fitting; will double check though.

Kiz you're right! It has one m10 and one 1/8th.

Hmm what to do about that?

Started cleaning this today, the paint work is in such a sorry state!

Have washed with TFR then washed again with wash and wax.

Have gone over it with fall out remover.

Clayed it (the bonnet took nearly 2 hours!)

Tried a bit of paint cleaner (to use before the mop) and areas done made the rest look cream, the clay did a lot and this did more.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to finish cleaning the paint then get most of it mopped and some sealant on.

Would this have lacquer? I swear it doesn't, and the paint seems porous as it just seems to hold marks in place.

Was hoping for a full detail in 2 days but proving awkward.

Need to get paint work done then order some special stuff for blacking the trim again, any hints on something for rennovating the rubber seals?

Every paint has some sort of clear-coat surely? Otherwise it'd be matt...

arnt some direct gloss ? which is just mixed in the paint ?

Yeah, but there's still lacquer in there doing the same job.

another fantastic build, always love reading through your builds, it so nice to see things done right rather than bodged together by pikeys, cant wait to see the engine go in

I meant lacquer as in a separate layer, like primer paint then gloss, as apposed to primer & paint/gloss combo.

Have cleaned most the paint work today, could do with a final polish for more shine but it's a lot cleaner, need to reblack trims and window seals etc but getting there slowly

Looks kl bud did a really good job! Its a really clean mk3 iv got a lot of rust on my arches :-( what brand paint cleaner you use?

You really need to get the new wheels and tyres on dude.

You going to poloshow?

your car will more than likely be solid colour/direct gloss so no laquer, the easyest way to tell is get some rubbing compound and rub an area, if it comes off white then its direct gloss, this is something we have to watch when colour matching older cars as base and laquer gives a slightly different shade as the direct gloss oxidises differently and drops with shine and colour, cars looking realy good by the way
