Gaz, philj charges that much for them?

they're expensive cause they're not cheap shit lol

like i say, do it yourself!

In my setup i have:

mk1 golf coilovers (ta technics iirc so budgets yes)

KW type 2 dampening adjustable rears

brand new top mounts

brand new wheel bearings

brand new cv joints

ALL for just and i mean JUST over £200! £500 more isent going to be needed for springs and shock swop.

KW fixed damping shocks are £100 a corner, so that'd be your budget gone on those alone - so can only assume you've bought bits secondhand to do it for under £200. Plus your bearings, top mounts and CVs are going to be close to a ton, even if you buy no-brand cheapies from GSF.

I like nice shiny new things, I can't see everyone's problem? If I wanted to save money to spend on other things I wouldn't even say they were an option.

I'm not sure what spring rates to go for though.

I'd be ok 80mm down with a stage 2 frame wouldn't I?

60mm isn't low at all (currently have)

Plus your bearings, top mounts and CVs are going to be close to a ton, even if you buy no-brand cheapies from GSF.

77 pound for mine ECP with 25% discount for the win

Look making coilovers isn't an option currently, I'm capable but don't want to.

And I wouldn't buy any off Kiz if I'm capable of making them myself.

Do your own thing mate, I got told by many people buy a different (more boring) car than a g40 - Id drive it knowing that I could have had a G and feel so dissapointed, Simalar situation with your suspension i guess. If it ever comes to selling them you going to get most of it back anyway :)

I know if I got a spring and shock kit, I wouldn't be happy with heights and end up cutting springs an stuff, on a new kit?? Seems silly.

Whereas I could choose some nice spring rates, have some adjustability of ride heights and damping, they're not chep budget stuff which it's development probably consists of driving round the block to ensure nothing breaks.

I never said it was cheap. But I'm also working hard at the minute and a weeks wages would cover the cost of them.

Just thinking about what spring rates and how much clearance the stage 2 frame will have at what drops

I get the feel that this thread is getting rapidly out of control again

Like I said mate, if your planning on keeping the car for a long time I think coilies are worth it, you will only regret it somewhere down the line if you have no adjustment. I'd happily pay 750 for some custom gaz jobbies heard great things about them and you know damn right if you keep the in good nick you could probably sell them on here for about 5.

Nice car anywway and the plans sound good, can't wait till you get the 1.6 in it, should be fun!

Yeah I want advice on heights and spring rates not how to manage my finances tbh!

I'm young and have no mortgage or kids etc, gotta fuck around and have fun now!

I don't mind paying it.

Good to meet you anyway dude :)

Just cut the springs initt .. lol

Should be ok 80mm with subframe, hope so cus I'm bit lower and going to run one soon ..Ask cymro on here, he's down quite low with a stage 3 :)

Mmm, 1.5-2" of clearance would be good?

 chill out! , this is a forum, people have different opinions!

But your right, why pay £450 for a decent non-adjustable kit, when you can save a bit more and have a much better suspension set-up.

I guess it just seems a lot of money to me, you must be on a good wage! No ones trying to give you advice on your finances at all nick, just trying to give you constructive critism on parting with nearly £1000 worth of suspension, on a car thats worth half of that.

If you don't care about the money, then i say go for it!, you'll have the best set-up money can buy (pretty much) for this chassis.

And 80mm down with a stage 2 will leave you about an 1" ground clearence, thats on 175/50/13's though, so it will be more like 1.75" with the tyres you speak of.

Yeah I know that dude, I understand it's a lot of money but I want a decent setup considering budget coilovers and a shit ride could have killed me in my 6n lol.

It's a big initial outlay yes, but then I can adjust to suit and such, even if I get bored of the car in a years time, having spent a few thousand, I'll have had fun, I enjoy putting the cars together, new bits on old cars and such.

I think I'm going to go for the Gaz, just want to determine some spring rates and wait for pay day :)

Was thinking about running a g40 rear beam with the ARB built in?

Defo the GT/G40 beam,

Go for the GAZ coilies then!

I'm going for 225lb on the fronts of mine, maybe 180lb on the back,

Gonna wait for Tav and see what he says about his.

Mm maybe an idea to source a beam now and build up with new brakes/drums/bushes etc!

Maybe i shouldn't go so mad at this haha slow down maybe!

Think its a good idea TBH, they're not expensive. Or you can go for a custom ARB set-up?

There's a FAQ about it and people have had great results, its something i'm going for!

  • Author

Ok so I think I'm gonna order some Gaz coilovers over the next couple of weeks.

This week I'll be ordering TCA bushes and beam and poly engine mounts.

Awaiting PPP stock on frames and will order ARB blocks at the same time!

Need to get myself some g40 brakes with carriers to refurb.

May drop the wheels off to be refurbed this week, will see how dollar is!

Anyone got a spare pair of front hubs?

When you say hubs, do you mean full struts?

spec sounds good, you fitting it as you go along?

  • Author

Well the knuckles with the tube with steering arm etc! To be modified like :)

And nah in just gonna obtain parts when I have money then fit whenever :)
