right, i installed a new carb gasket earlier so I'm guessing i now have no air leaks. car was still warm when it was installed and was running fine.

a couple hours later (just now) i went to drive it to pick up my lady from the station,

COLD - it started straight up from cold with no issues and was idling fine just above 1000 rpm.

WARMING UP - after driving for about a minute, it started becoming jerky on the throttle (kangarooing or w/e u call it) i pulled over and the car stalled straight away.

i tried to start it and it wasnt having any of it.

to get it to run i had to keep blipping the throttle, if i held the throttle on it would just bog down and cut out.

WARM - car idled fine once again, and drove, however it was a little jerky when accelerating and felt a bit flat.

work that one out folks!

i need the car tomorrow for work so help needed ASAP!!!!!

nope, its a HK engine with a pierburg 2E carb with autochoke. autochoke seems to be working fine so i wouldnt have thought that

It would be over fueling so yeah it could effect its ability to rev up freely, but you say the choked working so it shouldn't be that. Are you 100% sure its not sucking in air from anywhere? The choke being on could mask this as its restricting the air flow but as the choke comes off combined with an air leak it could be allowing too much air in causing it to run like shit

I've fitted a brand new carb rubber flange today so I'm fairly sure it cant be from there!

You could of fitted it wrong? It might not of sealed as it should? Maybe a vacuum hose hasn't been put back on or has split?...

All I can go off is what you tell me, and from what you've said no I don't think it could be a timing issue, Unless you also messed with the timing at the same point as changing the gasket?

It seems like too much of a coincidence to me that you change this gasket and then get a running problem that seems to to hand in hand with the choke being on/off, I'd be very surprised of this didn't boil down to some thing to do with that

the timing is out a bit lol, gonna go set it in a min, na it did it before aswell so I'm not sure

it opens up slowly as the car heats up when revved, seems good to me!

just set the timing, (properly this time )

raised the idle abit to compensate, (a lil too much really but i didnt wanna make too much noise)

when driving it sometimes splutters from the carb, and its still jerky. also sometimes it feels like its running really lean, can feel like a wierd vibration and it feels slow lol

ideas?

So i drove it to work from cold this mornin, it didnt die on me this time, however it was backfiring through the carb alot and durng acceleration it jerks alot

have the mixture set ..and timing checked again

i thought you built a decent pooberg for the silver mk2? fit that?

If blipping the throttle is stopping it from stalling I'd say it was a blocked idle circuit as the accelerator pump jet is independant of this it's got the fuel to keep it going. I've had the same thing with a webber or two.

Anyway, is there not a way, you can warm the engine up, then manually ensure the autochoke is off?

Then use your colourtune to set the mixture screw and such?

How are the spark plugs looking?

Also as Iv sent you diagrams, check your cam timing too :)

The timing was spot on when i set it last night, which makes me think i better check the crank - cam timing!

It will idle, its under acceleration I'm having problems mainly

There's an exploded diagram in the haynes manual. that should lead you to it. Sorry I can't be more specific than that. I hate pierburgs I've always ditched them for webbers or injection

do you reckon being a tooth out on the timing could cause any of this?

as the engine in the silver mk2 is the same, and it drove fine! lol tempted to just swap them over!
