6 grand to insure a 1.05 mk2 coupe!

Featured Replies

I think the recent floods must have done something to insurance companies because quotes for my brother to get insured TP on his coupe have shot up from £1500 to £6000 in the last month. :o

Its fluctuating like mad at teh moment dude, i was getting quated £1900 on my 1.3 6n in february, come to insure it from end of this month...... £4500 was cheapest i could find on comparison sites with admiral :|

gave aviva a ring though and they're sorting me out for 2200 fully comp, might be worth giving them a try

I dunno who else he has tried but he has rung loads of places and the best he's found is around 3 grand. He's probably already tried aviva. Hasn't tried any of the specialist places like brentacre or adrian flux/hic yet. I'll have to do some phoning around at dinner.

Insurance is mad, my friend wa gonna buy a fiesta ST an found he could insure a Porsche for a few hundred more!

£6k? Where the hell do you live? Beirut?

Insurance is a pisstake these days. these companies must be making a mint :(

Insurance for me is £150 a year!

Personally think they just pluck numbers from wherever they feel. £1600 on a 1.6 polo GTi or £1200 on a 2.8 VR6 Golf . . . :retard:

Even mine goes up and down though so it must be all these scam claims we see on tv thats doing it.

Comparison sites are crap tho. Starting off on a full licence (17) on a 2004 polo 1.2. Cheapest 3k most expensive 7k :o

Random numbers!

On a provisonal for £952, now that is mad cheaper and i am more of a risk! Stupid, silly, useless, incompetent, bunch of Pr*cks!!

"ok sir let me get my calculator out, age x 10, + you years wage makes it, £23,000. Would you like to make the payment over the phone or on our online fercilaties?"

I'm afraid not, they seem to think you are less of a risk as you have to be accompanied by a experienced driver (at least 4 years) where as just because you have passed your test doesnt mean you have enough experience

^ Agreed.

If you have an experienced driver in the car you will not be ragging it about either.

Just passed your test, out driving loads, ragging the shit out of it. Crash.

Generally that it the way it works, almost every guy I know has crashed a car within the first year of driving (apart from my dad but i'm sure he's lying to me!!!!)

Well I maybe accompanied by a experienced driver, but not dual control but oh well

Get a nectar card and go to Sainsburys! Cheap as chips!

This! Was 25% cheaper than any other quote I could get! Decent underwriter too.

You probably don't live in Beruit/Manchester though. Still, it's a good price for a 19 yo with a 1.6 litre car.

i dont , live in village but the town just down the road does have a quite high crime rate

My first year in Bradford cost me 2100 TPFT on my 1ltr polo, this years was 1600 TPFT which with brentacre allows me to modify pretty much aesthetically to my hearts content and not had my renewal through yet. Nightmare paying well over triple what the cars worth!

My dad told me the same, though i knew it was rubbish when my grandad told me that my dad drove through the back of the garage! :)

But yeah insurance is really stupid nowadays, I'm a little older with plenty of NCD so my insurance isnt really more that £1300 on anything within reason. but still saying that its twats that get hit and claim for stuff thats not needed such as whiplash etc they say theyve spent more on whiplash claims this year than anytime before thus why the premiums rise.

In simple terms the more people that crash and claim the higher premiums will get, until people like yourself literally will not be able to afford to insure a car and will live the rest of there life on a 50cc moped.

Matt I read this quote the other day and as well as finding it slightly amusing it also highlight how bad this situation has gotten...

Moreover, if whiplash really were occurring on the scale that insurance claims suggest, it would indicate that there was something fundamentally wrong with British necks. Here, 70 per cent of personal injury claims are whiplash-related: in France, it is just five per cent.

Guy that really is astonishing, just goes to show how petty most brits are. But you do have to think...most french ride bicycles and wear scarfs so that probably protects there necks.

New safety feature...Scarfs!

Do it face to face through a broker. For my 1st car I went to Swinton, who found Aviva to be the cheapest for me. They gave me a £300 up front discount and £995 cashback after 90 days. And took £800 off my premium because I did pass plus.

thats a crazy price, sure they work it out by how many chinese people they can drown in a day! takes the piss
