Thanks mate but I'd prefer you look in your box of useful parts to nick, not a box of shit.

Mine is late spec yea, isn't original engine is it fool, it was a 1.4, I got the AEE and rebuilt it ;)

As for sumps can i use the thing on my mk2 engine? Everyone keeps saying mk3 in this topic but I'm guessing they are the same?

I think the earlier engines have a different pump. Like solid lifter ones anyaay

yeah solid lifter engines are different, pump is shit apparently!

Tits.

I might be getting a few laser cut soon if you need one.

Do it, there will be plenty of us after them

Yeah? roughly how many shall i make then? i know i certainly need one and a spare more than likely.

How they gonna work? 3 fixings at top & two at bottom? Thickness?

Surely there are a few of us that don't want to do pikey installs haha

Could gauge interest with a group buy when you know a rough price, i would be almost certain.

yeah essentially 3 at the top and two at the bottom. 6mm aluminium plate specced on the drawing, which may change, design has cut out for oil cooler sandwich plate.

Alloy? And there was me questioning how much strength the 5mm steal plates people use actually give over two bolts, I take it you will still be milling the mount down by 6mm to prevent the engine from being misaligned?

I might make a boss and weld it to the block for the third bolt :ninja:

That's the best option but does carry its own risks, I've seen a 1W block scrapped by being welded in the wrong way. The best bolt on option I've seen is mikey's L shaped bracket.

Weakening the mount by milling a chunk off and then trying to prevent that mount from twisting by bolting a piece of soft metal between a large area isn't a great idea imo. I was questioning whether 5mm steel be strong enough to not flex over that distance if that mount twisting was as big an issue as people make out, using ally is almost laughable tbh

I'm not using two bolts because I'm pikey, I'm using two bolts because (until mikey posted a pic of his the other day) I haven't seen a better option other than stripping the engine down to a bare block getting a part of an earlier block welded on to give 3 holes.

got a picture of this thing mikeys running?

It's in a recent thread here somewhere I'll look

IMO better idea than a plate

It's still not going to be as good as modifying the block to take the extra bolt, but at least this one doesn't need any strength taking away from the original engine mount unlike the ones that need a large chunk milling off. So your not creating a weakness while trying to make something else stronger. It would be get simple to knock up too

EDIT: beaten to it so I've removed the pic, no point in posting it twice

Found me a pickup yet mr mcbumming?

Engines out of 6n so you can come grind if you want

Couldn't see it earlier mate but I will be looking again tomorrow

Safe, no rush mate

does that not mean grinding a bit out of the block essentially?

I'm confused with this pickup thing

I couldnt get a mk3 sump on my afh when i built it up, used the shorter pickup pipe and the pump that came with it originally but the sump just sat on it :?

does that not mean grinding a bit out of the block essentially?

Looking at the only pic I can find of one of my blocks that shows that part of the engine, yes it does

Ben you tit the pickup I'm trying to find arris is the same as the one you already have on your engine, you want a late one which is totally different... Please keep up

Just wondering how much people trim the dipstick tube down? Or is it just the depth of the sump difference?

does that not mean grinding a bit out of the block essentially?

Yes it does.

By more than it appears, too - the bracket was much thicker metal in the corner, as i cut it from a section of RSJ so it's from a single piece of 'billet', not bent or welded.

I removed several mm's into the rib down the edge of the block, but there's over 10mm before you have to worry about the oilway.

Didn't try it on the ally block, dunno if it'd be any good for that. I don't know if all blocks have the threads tapped for it - that one is an AEE from a Skoda Felicia estate, used it on a 6N AEE and 6N AFH too.
