There's nothing better than a spotless car, I saw a Lupo at Prëpt and GTi international with 114k on the clock and it looked factory fresh! So nice

It was awesome the engine response is lovely, the accelerator has a instant response, smooth gearbox, decent ride

Couldn't of been better (apart from the misfire on cold, but I have another injector rail on its way )

I love a original car that is clean; at car shows its like, "nice aftermarket wheels on that car" *walks past* "nice body kit" *walks past* "wow, that's a clean mk1 golf GTi" and that is when I spend ages looking at a car, and like it

My suggestion would be with yellowed/weathered headlights:

If they are slightly yellowed (see pics of red 6n2 in the thread) use the turtle wax kit if you're lazy haha

If they are really yellowed, (see pics of GTi in this thread) use the autoglym, with a good clean rag, and plenty of elbow grease

Overall though, use the autoglym with some elbow grease

It works out cheaper than the kit, and had a much better finish

yea gonna defo go with the autoglym stuff bit cheaper too so all good then was thinking about getting some lamix film to give them a suttle tint and also stop them from getting grubby again

great thread, iv been through exactly the same job as you with mine, although my shell bearings were immaculate so the went back in, did yours have any notches/tabs in them to stop the shell itself spinning? because mine didnt however i didnt take off and clean my oil breather, but after seeing the state of yours, mines coming off in the morning :-D

Thinking about it, I don't think so the only thing I remember is the oil way that leads from the head of the piston, down through the shaft (?) in the middle, to the bearing at the bottom; but that's surpossed to be there

The breather was a bit of a b*stard to be honest, it just didn't want to come off. So what we did is that we marked up all the pipes with a paint pain (chalk can be used also) so that we knew what pipe went where. At the time, we had the front engine mounting off, and the the sump was resting on a jack; so we wiggled the engine up and down with the jack so that we could get it out.

Like you said, if you had the same problem as me, you've probably seen, thick, gunky, burnt on oil deposits somewhere; and that is what it was like in the breather

We ran a load of Jeizer (universal parts degreaser) through it, and left it in there for an hour or two to soak in, washed it through and then gently blasted it with air to get any remaining crap out.

If there is any gunk left, just scrape it off with a flat head or something :p

*Update

basically today consisted of me going from post office to post office to collect a few parts in the morning, getting the door stripped down and taken off, beating out the panels the best i could, hanging on the new door and installing my LED interior / number plate bulbs

^^^ rear seat out and rear door card removed. leaky moudling clips and surface rust :/

^^^started beating out the panels from the inside

^^^ glass and mirror off

^^^ door card and sound proofing out

^^^^ door off

^^^ might leave it as it is

^^^ more panel beating needed

^^^ gotta spot weld a plate to the sill to pull it out, then beat it if required

^^^ all the bits in the back

^^^ as she stands now :)

my dad said that he is getting a old friend into work to set my a body jig onto the car during the week whilst i'm on my internship

so hopefully i should have a few pics during the week to show the straightened panels and the car on the jig

got my seatbelts back home so i decided to give them a good scrub, as there were a bit mucky

Number 2 injector was taken out today, because the car was misfiring quiet badly

And from further inspection on the scanner, the injector was defiantly f*cked

Got the car on the jig today, the dents in the rear quarter have come out really good! the sill... not so much

the sill is rather rotten, so I'm gonna put some wax oil inside it and smooth it out with filler and see what happens, other wise i'm gonna need a new sill

i got dents in both my sills, the obvious one in the pic above, and one in the oppisite sill; because some plonker tried to jack it up on the sill

*Update

these pics are of me preparing the rear quater, and sill for the filler, the application of the filler, rubbing down the filler and loosening off my track rod ends (as my front tyres are wearing faster in the innner edge)

that was the end of thursday for filler and rubbing it down

the wheels that came standard on a 6n2 GTi are BBS RX2 split rims, 15in in diameter

how ever, these are 16's so i am thinking that at some point, the wheels were swapped for golf mk3.5 wheels (as they are 4x100 and 16in)

OR

16's were offered as a dealership option (as i cannot find an option for bigger wheels in the 2001 Polo booklet)

if anyone has any clarification, please let me know

after a look of elbow grease and an electric sander (finially!) I'm starting to get the shape of my sill back

the rear quarter is defo nearly there, just some fine filler need now

As sods law would have it, a black (LC9Z) door has turned up for less than half of what I paid for the silver door

Saves us time and moniez later anyways

I'd love to be able to do what you do so I certainly am enjoying the read as much as you are building it . Going a different colour or you sticking with black or surprise :p?

it's taken a looooong time, so even though it has been cheaper on the money side, time wise, not so much.

but defo time well spent.

this is gonna be ready in about roughly 2 weeks

and when it is ready, time to sell the SDi 6n2 to pay for the parts that went into the GTi
