wilwood 4 pots are good! all depends on your budget. the size of the wheels your running and what you actually want to achieve as most mk3s just need a good bleeding

Yeah totally depends on what you already have

If the are just standard pov spec solid disc's then a swap to vw2's (same disc size but vented) some decent pads, fresh fluid and a good once over to check everything else is in good working condition

If you want more than that (or already have vw2's) there is a guide in the faq above with details of a 256mm vented conversion using golf and vauxhall parts

After that as kiz mentions your getting into big brake conversions but you'd need to be running a fair bit of power to justify them really

If you have a GT, surely it should have vented disks unless your cars a conversion from a lower model?

Mine are grooved disks (cant remember the name of em) but they were just short of £60 a pair and they're quite good.

Same here - vw2 brakes somehow aint gonna handle a VR6.

We need pics!

thats one of the issues yes - i can think of several more which involve serious structural modifications, get ready to be bent over by mr SVA

No mate your car hasn't had the brakes changed

Jon the GT's didn't come with vented discs, that was just the G40's. GT's had solid discs same as the spi models

My bad :(

Same. thought id start small.

wouldnt it be easier to space frame the whole front end

I'd rather fit a PY engine and record a vr6 and play through speakers lol

means fook all, il believe it when i see it, and if i do see it then I'm more then happy to stand corrected.

Being a good mechanic at a dealership doesn't mean he can do complete custom fabrication and wiring

I'm inclined to simply answer the question instead of speculate about the reasons. It's a fair question after all, and the conversion has been done already, more than once, it's not like he's saying his mate's putting a Veyron engine in there..

However, there will be some big challenges (the shell doesn't have driveshaft provision given diff/body/sump/axle placements for a start), the car may not be using the standard front struts/hubs then, and that calls into question the range of brakes to choose from.

If we are to presume a Golf/Polo 4-stud hub then i'd recommend some that carry the VW 256's. If it is gonna use the original hubs then it's gotta be the Vauxhall 256's.

I say 256's because i'd run 14's (i'd use 200mm rear drums with that, though discs are admittedly a more popular choice). Should be enough for an 850kg car with less than 200bhp.
