Need better brakes on mk3 polo coupe

Featured Replies

20vt in a mk1 golf has been done so many time's I'd imagine most to the custom parts are available off the shelf. Vr6 in a early polo is a totally different league, everything will have to be custom made and extensive work carried out to the engine bay/chassis to get it to fit. A lot of other things will need addressing while doing this sort of conversion to a polo that wouldn't with a golf

Hopefully you do do it but its never a good sign when some one saying they are going to do it and then follows that up with "my mate works at vw and he is going to do it" seen it said many times on here and yet there are still no front engined 20vt/VR6 early polo's in this country.

This is why when people come on here making these claims they are always treated with scepticism. As I say tho I hope you do do it, but until you can actually show it being done you will always be looked on in the same way as all the others that have said they were doing it and never did

You would need some pretty hefty brakes to deal with the weight and power you are hoping to put through them tho, 256 would be an absolute minimum but tbh if it were me I would be looking at bigger than that

Its not that hard pal ther loads of thm espacially in wakefield, u dont understand what these lads do at vw or what theyv got, ther guna look at this topic and laugh i think daz will signup just to show his projects hes done

you can buy mounts for 20v's in earlier golfs lol.

VR6 is a fair lump to fit in a mk3, ESP RHD.

But good luck

A vr6 in a mk3? Do you mean a mk2f or a mk3 (6n) because if there's "loads" I'm looking forward to seeing these

mk3 (6n) theres a few tbf

The polo coupe suggest a 2f to me?

Which car are you actually talking about here?

The top one is what is commonly called the mk3 (although its not its a mk2 facelift), and the bottom one is actually a mk3 but is commonly called a mk4

I'm assuming that seens as you said "mk3 coupe" you were on about the top one, if so feel free to post any proof of the the existence of these "loads" that are in wakefield, and yes it really is that hard. Your saying that fitting a vr6 in to an 86c isn't that hard, yet your asking basic questions about brakes

Ben he said mk3 coupe

But yeah if its the 6n your on about there are a few around and its nothing like as hard to do as it would be in the early car, which from your first post is what you are planning to do it to. Unless this is just a big mix up and you meant the 6n and if that's the case then the option of bigger brakes opens right up for you

Got engine today 20v turbo and its going in mk3 polo coupe 1993, got engine from (u pull it) back end smash to good to miss with low miles and fsh

Thought you were fitting a VR6? And you did well to get that since your last post

Get a build thread up then dude :)

This text speak hurts my brain

This project needs a build thread, I'm watching eargerly,

Best of luck with the project

Ps, if I was doing it I'd ditch the standard suspension set up and get something custom made.

I was going to but this was too good to miss, only wnted brake advise lads, its possible to fit most engines in any car, veedubs at gateshead do the 20v turbo an vr6 all coupes and 6ns, iv already had a quote for 1150 by thm but that was without wiring an brakes and i had to supply engine n gearbox and clutch, il make sure you see it when its done dont worry

Well surely these experts could recommend some brakes.

£1150 to do that is an amazing quote- considering the chassis leg modifications alone would take about 20hrs minimum i think to complete- thats using parts bought from salzmann. so are you supplying the custom 02a driveshafts? as there was a second hand pair for sale on clubg40 a few years ago for £300.

i am assuming that you do know that the O/S chassis leg needs to be chopped in half and rewelded up- and the N/S chassis leg needs to have nearly 30% of it cut off to get the gearbox in? and then theres the special subframe needed to provide you with new suspension mounting points? and its not a PPP frame- its totally different and has engine mounting on it and special brackets.

Anyone with half a brain can fit a 20v into a mk1 as you an buy the mounts like you can with a 6n- the mk2/3 golf is a piece of piss and is almost drop in.

get the build thread up- I'm going to follow with massive intrigue as i couldnt get ahold of the parts - i ended up with a 1w engine which was easier remarkably to get ahold of then the subframe - i was outbid on 1 at €1300 and the rocking horse shit conversion chassis leg parts i was outbid at €1400

Kiz mate, I ain't being funny but i work at VW and have a grinder and a welder..and some scotch lock connectors..it's easy!!

But what brakes should I run? I was thinking "U" brakes off my BMX

well this is what your grinding!

i know its a mk1 - but its the same job apart from the frame being different

I've got balls and have chopped most things to make stuff fit - but this shit is a car killer if done wrong

oh - and notice in the first photo - all that bulkhead chopped away for space! now add the fact the steering rack and brakes are on that side in this country - where are you going to put them? - and all of a sudden the reason why its more common in germany becomes all so clear

Touched a nerve or what young

Yeah but kiz its not hard to do, he's already told me, and theres loads of VR6 mk3 (2f) polo's driving around wakefeild

not touched a nerve - i just hear it all the time and nothing ever gets done, been like it for 5+ years. I've not sen a uk vr6 or 20v mk2f and i am pretty aware of whats around in this polo culture, and even so - at £1150 its a bloody bargain. I'm more then happy to see it done make no mistake but to say I'm sceptical is an understatement!

look at the work involved! thats to cheap a quote - and again - the steering rack issues and brakes will still remain, you may want to take a look at my thread as the floor mounted pedal box will be required

I can't wait to see it.

You're fully aware of all the issues but dunno what brakes to run? Really????
