Hey all I've got a polo 6n with smoothed wings (no side repeaters) does anyone know if i need them for mot?

If it had side repeaters from the factory and your front indicators cannot be seen from the side then yes, it will fail. just wire up some side repeaters and tape em to your wing mirrors. heard of it working in the past.

my advice would be to take it for a mot and find out.

most mot stations will give you a free retest but they are allowed to charge up to half the price of the mot.

took mine with smooth indys for a MOT and it didnt even get mentioned

a 6n will be fine as you can see the indicators from the side :)

Actually as said above with 6ns and 6n2s you can delete them as the indicator is visible from the side and also nearly all the way round to the back.

Something like the 9n or 9n3 would either need the side reapers or indicators in the mirror.

There's a thread on here somewhere with a diagram showing te angles a person should be stood at what distance and be able to see a side repeater (or front/rear indicator) and I believe in that thread is was established a 6n was ok, but I can't remember if it depended on having 6n rear lights or not, as the 6n2 indicators are on the back but 6n on the side.

So basically if you someone rams in the back of your car they wont pay out? dude do you know how many modded cars get paid out even thou they had not cleared their mods etc. it all depends on the day the nature of the accident the company your dealing with etc. Any bulb in your vehicle can go any time and there is nothing anyone can do about it I have seen so many vehicles on the road without working brake lights and what if you crash into them its your problem.

My bet is that the vehicle in question above will pass MOT without the wing indicators.

^If you can prove the car you crashed into had no working brake lights then no, its not your problem. It's a well known scam to remove the brake light bulbs and slam the brakes at a junction or round abouts so the person behind crashes into them.

Kiz on here is currently helping the police after almost being caught out by one and then witnessing the same gang cause a crash a few minutes later on the same island. If you can prove that they are trying to commit insurance fraud then you won't have case to answer to, your insurance isn't going to pay out if they think its a scam

Off topic but the above happened to me a few years ago, the woman in front slammed on the brakes and I went into the back of her, she wa imodatly out of the car with everything ready asking for my insurance details. She had no brak lights at all. I sensed something amiss so I didn't give her my insurance details an just my first name and telephone number, my bonet was all bent and front panel was lights etc damaged, here bumper wasn't even damaged and to me it looked as if it had been reinforced.

I had my car repaired fully within a few hours as I started on it as soon as I got to work. The lady kept calling and I said I had reported the accident to the police and she should do the same and get my info from them. She never did.

Also , as an not tester I would say you really should have side repeaters, but with that in mind as long as the light emitted is visible from the side then it shouldn't be a problem. Although really I would fit some less into the mirror as these are discreet and would be better then a wing mounted one.

Opinion on what is preferable and what isn't, well i don't think that's very relevant.

It's about the law, it's about a pass or fail according to a rule book, and a 6n technically doesn't require side repeaters.

However, opinion does have such a place here in the real world - the examiner can decline on their personal confidence, it's their career on the line. So if they don't personally like it, they have an excuse to boy you off with no cigar.

I don't have to worry about this, i have no repeaters and yet my front indicators can't be seen from the side. So when i'm indicating, anyone in my blind spot cannot see me signal. Thankfully though, i don't drive like the majority of todays motorists - ignorant and selfish hollow skulls who rely absolutely on the foolproof automation of todays lazy way of life.

No, i drive a car that commands you to pay grave attention. Cocoons you not in cotton wool, but a feeling of sheer vulnerability. And so every move i make is done after a genuine interest in precisely WTF is going on everywhere around me.

Thankfully, my MoT examiner recognises this.
