Featured Replies

Hey thought id finally start a build thread for my polo.

This is my ermmmmm carnt even rember number polo 5+ 6ns now and a mk2 and a saloon lol anyways

Bought it completey standard with panel damage and lots of rust. :D typical 6n.

I'm in my 3rd year now at college doing vehicle paint so i thought why not give myself a little project.

Not got no pictures of when i 1st got it.. we all know what a standard 6n looks like.

went around and found all the problem areas that needed attention

never took a pic when i had done it a si was in a rush to tidy up. cleaned it all up and welded it and ground it flush.

Then started with the usual stuff. De bump stripped and started flattign rust spots out. and ordered coils

Picture019-4.jpg

Picture019-4.jpg

fitted coils and lowred it then ran it looking sorry for itself for a while.

some moron decided to drive into me a si was parked up..

Picture028-2.jpg

Picture027-2.jpg

got a quote off a garage to fix it for instead of going through insurance £100 they said and added £50 for my inconviance .

i got the cash and it just buffed out instead as i knew i was painted her up one day.

the major damage when i bought the car was a damaged lower rear quarter

Picture030-2.jpg

Picture029-2.jpg

nothing a dint puller and a skim of filler car sort out :D also rolled my arches both sides aswell.

Picture032-1.jpg

Picture031-1.jpg

Picture033-2.jpg

Picture034-2.jpg

Picture036-1.jpg

Picture035-2.jpg

Picture038.jpg

Picture037.jpg

put both sides in white primer and bought some candy white spray tins just to slightly blend the colour.

also sent off my two steel wheels for banding from 14x6 to 14x8 these was for the rear with 195/45/14 tyres and i had standard front steelies with stretched 155/55/14s on with 15mm spacers.

Picture040.jpg

Picture039.jpg

Picture015-6.jpg

lowered the car alot and put them on and also added a roof rack

Picture004-6.jpg

Picture003-6.jpg

some of you may has spotte dme at a local meet under tesco in chesterfield.

after this i added camber and wrapped it up for a few months

scraped like a bitch in the back so i added camber.. ( WAY TO MUCH )

Picture008-5.jpg

Picture006-5.jpg

Removed these and sold the rears as i couldnt be bothered with them..

the car went under a cover for a couple of months with standard 16v wheels on and i drove my daily more over the bad winter and until recently. when my lecturer said i could get the car painted at college :D win

so i set about prepping her ready for the sprayjob

got her in the Sh*thole i mean garage..

Picture047-1.jpg

thats the room for one side as i carent access the other at the same time

Picture049-1.jpg

polished the rocker cover

Picture043-2.jpg

Picture044-2.jpg

Picture045-2.jpg

then started on the bodywork. i wanted to smooth my wings off after looking at a few on here :D

Picture050-1.jpg

cleaned them up and put a plate in and welded :D then skim of fibreglass and filler then stopper :o

BTW the Clear goggles are to protect my eyes from hot sparks i close my eyes when welding as i haven't invested in a changing welding mask yet and i carnt fully seam the wings anyways as it will warp

Picture052-1.jpg

Picture053-1.jpg

Picture056-1.jpg

fibreglass

Picture057-1.jpg

filler and then didnt take a pic of stopper :S

Picture058-1.jpg

heres the dust from the stopper and filler :D

Picture062-2.jpg

and walaahhh smooth, sealed uner the arch where i had welded and cleaned.

Picture061-2.jpg

Picture063-2.jpg

and did the exact same on the otherside.

bought some more steel wheels and got them shot blastic and in primer

Picture065-1.jpg

and ordered some more 155/55/14 tyres

Picture067-1.jpg

painted the steel wheels

IMG_0625.jpg

IMG_0626.jpg

rolled her out the garage and started prep work for paint

IMG_0633.jpg

needed plenty of tea for the prep!

IMG_0632.jpg

Picture071-1.jpg

Picture074-2.jpg

Picture073-2.jpg

This brings me to today :D drove her to college and prepped and masked her up for paint

IMG_0634.jpg

IMG_0635.jpg

IMG_0636.jpg

let the level 3 painters do there painting..( i get the spray job free if they can do it.) i had the buy the paint for it tho.

IMG_0638.jpg

IMG_0637.jpg

that was after the 1st coat i then left for break and they applied the 2nd coat....

and its run like a bitch lol all down both sides.. students are blaming the mixing of the paint done by the lecturer.. hes blaming theere techniques..

so tommorow its getting flatted back and repainted hopefully!

from then on i will update more often as I'm going to a show on the 1st jan. ( MOD NATS )

Long read i know but hope its worth it in the end :D

3yrs of paper work doesn't mean they can do a full repaint haha.

I did 3yrs in body repair and college and learnt nothing.

Deffo down to technique and maybe to much thinners for there skill level.

Nice progress though for just a "learner" project.

Love the bandeds.

Will be updating the running side lights soon as i dont really like them :(

car looks great man what wheels you gonna get or are you just sticking with the g60s for now

running side lights just seem to stand out to much, should maybe flush fit them or something....other than that, good work =D

Agree with the above but that is my only criticism. Love it on the current set of rims TBH!

  • Author

Mini g60s are staying :) 40mm spacers out back and 30mm on the front

I know the running side lIghts stand out way to much I'm looking into some new ones

I just didn't have time before the show :(

this thread just made me happy. looking sweet from when i saw it to pick them bits up off you.. also was thinking about 40mm spacers on the back and 30's on the front too but wasnt sure how it would be, answered a question too :-D

that paint work upsets me, wish mine was that shiney :(

  • Author

Still going to give it another polish :) and maybe wax

Tbh I had 15mm spacers on the front when I had bandeds, but they didnt look right so I knew 30mm would be fine and I just bit the bullet and bought rears aswell :) and it works in a way

Simple and smooth :)
