Could be anything really mate..

Get it onto Vag-Com. Possibly a lambda sensor, you'll have poor economy. If it's slowly failing, the light will go off soon, and come back on soon after that..

Update: Got a VAGCOM lead (ebay job) and just ordered VAGCOM 409.1 which I'll try over the weekend, see what pops up!! Return on mileage has been worse than I thought it would be since I got the car so lambda sensor would figure. If it is that, how expensive is that going to be??

and will it do any damage untouched or just give bad mpgs?? Presumably the light comes on for a reason when there's a problem so it's not good for the engine?

Posting so much seems silly but I do have an update. I managed to get this on shareware vagcom tonight and it returned 3 fault codes but only defined one. Faulty egr.

Assume this is a seperate sensor to lambda?

my friends had a similar problem recently, hers ended up being dirty pipe's.. trying cleaning out your silcone tubing with a bit of brake and clutch cleaner.. otherwise i agree with the other dude that its probably a lambda sensor has gone wrong..

oxygen sensor. mines faulty but just passed mot . got new lead in boot just awkard to fit

if its the egr, you may be able to get away with cleaning it.

I take it ,it's a Diesel mate, the egr can be cleaned with brake cleaner or the like, just be gentle with it if you remove it.

Sorry I've not replied sooner, I put it on VAGCOM and it threw up 5 error codes but I can't see them all without paying. A bit of a rip off really!!!

Anyway, the light hasn't come back since I cleared all the faults so who knows!

My lights on but it still drives so it's staying on till payday

Got a new problem now, stupid thing won't start!! It did this a while ago on and off, so I put a new battery in it, but now it seems the problems back!

Engine doesn't even turn over, behaves like it has a flat battery. Clock and trip computer reset etc, fcking thing!!

Mine egr is faulty which brought the light on, never really made any difference, plus the part is £80!!

mine came on and was my cam belt so loose it was messing stuff up so go get it diagnosed . it is usually free and if its just emissions u will be fine to keep driving . good luck and hope its not a big one
