Right to start of I have a cerise red polo mk2f and about a year ago some chavs tried ripping my door off and all I could find was a green door and Since then i keep changing my mind whether to spray it to match the car or harlequin the car which I have never seen done on a mk2f. maybe coz it's a marmite risk (hate it or love it) is it really worth the risk well I really want your opinion on what to do with the polo as my new job means I can actually start sorting the polo out and hopefully have it sorted for some shows

I personally cannot stand Harlequin paint jobs.

its always going to be a marmite job, not everyone loves everything, personaly I've never liked the harlequins but up to you, its your car so do what you like and dont just follow suite, i always have respect for people who dare to be different weather i like it or not so if you want to then go for it

The first time I saw a harlequin car was actually polo 6n and I found it so funny that someone would do that to there car then I found out they are bought like that as a limited edition model but since I fitted my green door it makes me really want to try it but I can't make my mind up it so hard to choose as either way it's going to cost about the same amount of money for the paint

love the idea ask someone to do a photo shop of it to see its the best and cheapest way. i love Harlequin's they are awesome they stand out and when done right they attract the biggest crowds too

its an idea that a friend and me talked about, but didnt have a polo for it at the time

I think I going to do It see what the wages are like over the next two months and then get it done but in the mean time I will do a photo shop and design it

Out of neccesity we had to do something similar to the marine blue Mk2f, the navy blue colour. We had a LHD kinda smartie blue breadvan which was close to getting scrapped so used the bonnet, wings, doors and tailgate off that and onto the marine blue one, so it's kinda like two tone, I don't have any pics of it, but will try to get some taken of all angles. From the front and back (from a distance) it looks one colour, the lighter blue, and from the side it is two colours. Once you get close you can see the roof is darker as well as the strip under the grille, obviously the rear quarter panels are still dark blue, but all in all it doesn't look that bad, almost like it was meant to be.

I will see if I can get my daughter in law to take some pictures and send them to me so I can post them up.

It'll be cheaper that a spray job, but you'll need to wait for all the right colours to come up. Take a look at the 6n ones. There are certain patterns that the colours are in (like the roof matches the doors or something) and use that as inspiration. Also, they are symetrical iirc, so you'd need both doors in the same colour etc.

Can't say i'v seen it before, so would be rare to say the least

If you do plan on doing it do a few potatoshops first to get an idea of what pattern would suit it best. Ideally I think you should go with the proper harlequin colours and stick as close to the original pattern as possible

There will be a lot of one colour - the sills, A, B and C pillars, roof, scuttle panel and rear quarters will all be the same colour. Still, give it a bash, see how it goes

tbh, you wouldnt have to go by the rules with it...

Just paint the roof a different colour, rear quarter, sills... no need for it to all be the same. Just get the masking tape out.

There would be more of one colour than on a proper one but I don't think it would be so much that it would take away from the effect. Even on the 5 door 6n there's a fair amount of the shell colour on show. To get a basic idea just imagine the rear doors are red...

I think a mk2f would look much better due to the bigger bumpers and the generally more rounded shape of it over the boxy mk2

The mk2 doesnt really work as the bumpers straddle several colours, messing the whole look up. As guy says, mk2f would look better.

Looking at the bready though, it looks like it would work. Crack on!

Tobes, you really have to follow the 'rules' or else it will end up looking like that bready, a bit of a home brew-job. Did you get those top mounts btw?

I'd say leave it. Get the door painted to match, as you have yourself a rare colour there, Framboise Red . Harlequin cars are more common than that colour of MK2f/3.

yeah good point there will colour code the door for the moment then see if I change my mind next yeah or something but If I do any paint mods I will defo go down the harlequin route
