Josh's Silver 6n2 - Low, Smooth, Splits

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Recently joined this forum after moving on and purchasing a 1.4 8v silver polo. I used to own a little saxo furio that nearing the end of ownership looked like this!

I've now got a 2001 1.4 8v Polo

76k

FSH

Electric Windows, Mirrors & Sunroof

All in all it's not as much fun to drive as the saxo, but is alot more comfortable and the interior just feels much more substantial and of better quality!

Since owning the polo I've done a few small things as it was looking a little sorry for itself.

-New Plates

-SMD LEDs for sidelights, interior light and plate lights

-Osram Night-breaker headlights

-De-wiper

-De-badge the "Polo"

-Fit my Sony Bluetooth headunit from my saxo

-New aero wipers

-Shorter "beesting style" aerial

-A proper clean (Which I don't think it had ever been treated too!)

Bodywork wise it needs both bumpers resprayed. But that can come in due time, also maybe a new bootlid as it has 2 small creases in.

Plans are to get it low in about 2 weeks time. And then either Schmidt Modernlines, or a set of 14" banded steels!

Picture time! These are from before the new plates went on.

Cheers man, plans are too first of all get it on Coilovers and some proper wheels!

Then once thats sorted, I'll be getting the bodywork sorted. Bumpers resprayed, get the whole car mopped/machine polished. And get the arches rolled too. :)

Wish I had the money for a full respray!

Either a friends Schmidt Modernlines or some 14" banded steels. Depending on which become available sooner really!

Yeh it feels better to drive, but the saxo was on Gaz Coillies so handled great and was a lot of fun, build quality of the polo is so much better though!

On another note, my JOM coilovers arrived yesterday, hoping to get them on Saturday.

Got Joms for mines! They are good kit for the money. Really happy with mines. Take the spacers out and cut the bump stops in half if you are going loooooooooooooow!

Good to hear, only really heard good reviews on them so thought I'd go for them.

Going to leave them as they are for now, and once I've got a proper set of wheels then may do as you say so get it sitting right!

Finally got my coilovers on!

The front has about 30mm left and the rear can still go lower too. Sits ok for now. The hunt for wheels is still on, then it will be time for arch rolling and perhaps a chassis notch if needed for more lows.

Heres some pictures of how it looks at the moment, rolling on some sexy lookin' trims.

And finally a picture trying to show how low it sits, drive shaft is already pretty close to chassis. So more lows will probably need a notch.

Looks sick, even with trims :)

120 mile round trip today to get some banded steels!

13x7.5 fronts and 13x8 rears with 165/55 tyres all round.

The blue is growing on me tbh. Was planning on respraying white but not so sure now! May do the centres a colour and the dishes white or something.

The car sits much lower than before but the rear could do with going down another 10mm, will try and do something about it next weekend, anyway, pictures.

Cheers guys, I'm going to have to raise the front 10mm or so, its just impossible to relax on any road except a perfectly smooth one at the moment. Blue will stay for a couple weeks or so, then may refurb white but haven't really decided yet!

Picked the Schmidts up from my mates today. Gave them a clean and have ordered one new tyre to replace one thats nearly illegal.

Once the tyre arrives I'll get them on and see how low I can get on them.

I'll do my best haha

Looks like a very tidy car. Schmidts would suit it well! Random question, but what's the 8v like? Is it really slow or is it actually not bad?

Cheers!

The 8v is pretty boring to drive, you can feel the extra pull compared to a 1.1/1.0 car. But with 60bhp its pretty dire. I've been in a 9n 1.4 16v which is 100bhp and that feels immensely better. So yeh, pretty slow. But if you don't care about driving hard all the time then its fine.
