Is it just me, or do golf owners NEVER state when they are selling parts/their cars that it's actually a golf? Seen this on edition 38, swdubs etc etc, where there are many varieties of cars, however golf owners immediately think that everyone will know what car they are advertising for....

For example;

"MK3 Parts!" or "breaking 16v 5dr" - where no where in the advert it actually states it's a golf?! Swear it's only golf owners that do this.

They also never wave or flash back when you see/go past them on the road.

Wankers.

I just went through one of swdubs. "mk3 vr6 breaking" - admittedly a mk3 vr6 is most commonly a golf..however it could have been anything.. just really annoys me

I am a Crew member, I have been part of Edition38 since 2004.

I judge the Polo class and have done at both Early Edition and the main show for the last 3 years.

I have judged a lot of Polos, less than 5% of these have been owned by friends of mine.

None of these have ever won a trophy.

I award a trophy on merit and standard of the car.

When I judge I take the time to talk to the owner, I enjoy finding out about the work that has gone into it.

Quite a few cars that are popular online do not stand up to close scrutiny in the real world.

At Early Edition this year I was absolutely blown away by the attention to detail and standard of Beinn's Jamaica Blue mk3. I really liked the car and the little touches and really enjoyed talking to him about it. I had never him before in my life. He got 3rd Place.

At the main show last year I was also very impressed by Pete Amphlett's mk3. Again never met him before, great car and sound guy.

They may get a trophy at the main show this year if I deem their cars up to the standard compared to the competition on the day.

Would anyone have an issue that I now know them?

The reason it appears to be cars getting awards that we know is quite simply because we do know them, not all of them but the majority.

They attend the same shows as us, have the same OCD levels of attention to detail as us.

Above all they enjoy it all as much as we do.

Rant over, back to slagging off Golf owners.

'Slagging off' was a bit tongue in cheek!

No matter what happens the Polo will always be seen as the lesser car, the underdog, and I like that!

Only owned 2 Polos and 2 Golfs so I'm balanced!

just from all the pics ect it always seems like the same cars that get all the attention and prizes, hence i went GTI spring fest instead

Like guy's said, it's not slagging off golf owners, just the fact that they rarely ever state what car it's for ..because, you know, it's a golf....isnt that the only vw out there?

Also yes some of the golfs are nice....however there are sooo many of them that have been bagged on some bbs' that they get boring. Only a few stand out to me.

I always let on to everyone in the golf or polo!

If I was advertising on clubGTI I probably would state MK1 parts for sale. As its a forum aimed at golf owners for golf owners. If I was selling polo parts on the same forum i'd probably state Polo 2/2F parts for sale.

On here I list polo things MK1/2/2F parts for sale as its a polo foum. However if I was selling mk1 golf bits on this forum i'd state MK1 golf parts.

tbf I've noticed there are a few people on here that do this with polos for sale, they dont say what mk it is, let alone, tax/mot, miles, condition, mods etc just that they are selling a polo :p

but yes it is mainly golf owners i must agree :p

As as for knowing who the person was.. let me guess it was one of the moderating team!

Guess it could be seen as back peddling if he's "moderating" his own posts in which he made a statement that could very easily alienate some of the Asian folk amongst us, and this moderating takes the form of totally deleting any trace that the comment and subsequent posts ever existed

Not saying that I found it offensive or owt, but then I'm not an Asian and I wasn't being stereotyped, and I'm hardly Mr PC myself

But I can see where whats-his-name is coming from with that post that I didn't bother reading
