hi guys...

need a lil help...

got a limit of £120ish and wanting to buy a digital camara but for the life of me cant decide which one

can anyone help - any recommendations??

For £120 I see you want a point and shoot camera, my advice going in to a shop ask for the best all round camera for that price.

Sony Cybershots are good as are the lumix.

For £120 you won't get a decent DSLR with a lens you would be looking at a bridge camera like a Fuji S2000HD

yahhh i supposee, but a second hand dslr for £120 would probably be a much better camera than something new for that price!

fujis are pretty good, I've got a finepix dslr, 48x zoom is pretty sweet!

I've got the S2950, it's decent camera if a point-and-shoot isn't what you want and you can't afford a DSLR. Or if you're only going to be artsy an old 35mm SLR can be fun.

Good selection but none of them will do HD video and the lenses on them are not as big as the Fuji I mentioned fron Tesco, so the quality of the pictures won't be as good.

Have you tried a search on ebay and put your price limit on and see what it throws up? I think you would be looking at a 5+ year old model DSLR with a 4~6mp sensor and then you will need a couple of lenses 18~55mm & 55~200mm and they are going to set you back £50~150 each! Where as the Fuji bridge covers all these lenses and bit more, like close up (macro) sports mode etc.

The "bridge" camera's look like DSLR's in style but the lens is not interchangeable, so the lens covers close up, wide angle and telephoto, so this gives a bit of a comprimise in overall quallity over dedicated lenses on a DSLR, but the quallity is better than with a compact.

yeah mine must be a bridge, tis a great camera though! has served me well! you can get screw on attatchments though, i have a fisheye attatchment which works rather well

I've got a DSLR and see no point in a point and shot camera as they are a waist of money. You could get a second hand cannon 1100D for ruffly £120 as they are only £300 new. I've got the 550D and it's brilliant.

It all depends what you want to do with the camera, I have five camera's Nikon D300s, Fuji S3 Pro, Fuji S2000HD, Kodak cheepy compact and an old 35mm Zenith Sniper unit. They all have there uses for different things, only the Zenith I don't dare take it out anymore as I'm sure within minutes I'd be surrounded by SO9 cops pointing their HK5's at me as it looks like a short barrelled RPG!

Even a DSLR can be used as a point and shoot if you leave it on "Program" mode, the advantage of the DSLR is you can have full control over exposure/speed/iso settings etc, but if your starting out in photography the myriad of setting combinations can be confusing, where as the likes of the "bridge" camera it has the various automatic scene settings that will enable the beginner to get a good photo, they also have the option to overide these and use it more like a DSLR then when you get a bit more understanding of the difference the speed/aperture & iso makes you can move onto a full DSLR hence the term "bridge" as they bridge the gap between a simple point & shoot compact and a full control DSLR

want good quality but something decent too and easy to use...just something that will take good clear pics..

not fussed about hd..or should i - mans aint even got a hd tv yet lol...

as i need to share with family must be straight forward i think...will be used to take photos at car shows and family stuff, wedding, birthdays, holidays etc..

are any of those compact ones or anyone know of any that are good?

I think you would find the that Fuji from Tesco a good allrounder to start with, it will cover wide angle setting for large groups etc close up for some "arty" shots of bits of cars etc telephoto for distant shots, then as you get more used to the automatic settings it will give you the option to experiment with some manual settings to see what you do by altering various parameters, I know you say you have'nt got a HDTV but the videos can be seen on "normal" TV and at something like a wedding the video option could be nice for recording the embarrasing best mans speech etc?

Personally I'd leave those compacts as you'd soon find them limiting in what they will produce, in general the larger the front of the lens the more light it will allow into the cameras sensor, so getting the better picture and the compacts by their size have tiny lenses.

Yep, got them for free too You think trying to pick a camera is hard? Try finding 16mm, 127mm and polaroid film... Have you looked into those compact cameras that have the bigger lenses on them? I have no idea what they are called.

They are called Compact System Camera's (CSC's) they are basically a compact sized body with interchangeable lenses but your looking at a starting price of around £450 then you need to start adding other lenses to them

£450 starting price? That's getting awfully close to DSLR money. I can see why you would buy one but that must be a small market.

yeah the more i look at the fujifilm the more i seem to like it....

plus from tesco as my mum works there i should get an extra bit of discount...

Not much to seperate them, both excellent makes very similar specs, I think the Nikon being a tenner more is your paying for the more known brand name, plus if you can get staff discount the Fuji would be the one for me :-)

Save abit more money and get hunting the bay

i managed to get a sony A350 with a 4 lenses for £160 all because it needed a new LCD in the pull out viewer.... cost me £4 to replace and about 10minutes of labor and now i own a perfectly good DSLR for less than £200 :)

really does make sence to shop around sometimes
