Hello everyone I have recently decided that my lowering springs have been on my car (6n2) too long as I don't think the car looks low enough at all "/ so the choices are fk coilovers, JOM or any other budget coilies?

So as you lot know alot more and have had the experience with these toys, what would you lot recommend then :) not too bothered about being that comfy as my springs at the mo are ridiculously bouncy lol, looking for asuch ride drop as possible as I have 15's :) would anybody recommend buying second hand coilies or does anyone know where you can buy ta-technix as I cannot find them anywhere :(

that is usually what decides what type of coilover to go for.

Alot of it is based on spring rates, do a bit of research into what would be the best for your driving.

When they are wound all the way down, most coilovers will be crap

As above, if going looow just get some joms as most coilies will feel the same. If only going 60mm or so ap/weitec will be noticably better although twice the price.

I had some Raceland budgets and ended up swapping them after my work mates refused to get in the car due to the ride "quality". You get what you pay for.

I run Ta technix pretty near the bottom and yes the ride is how you say 'firm' however i haven't been in a car with top dollar coilies as everyone i know is cheap

the difference between 200 and 600 off quid is noticeable. just read reviews man, plenty of them about

What if you buy cheap coilovers and only lower by 30mm. Can you get a good ride then?

yeah that will improve things, but still depends on spring rates, raceland are mega hard 320lbs up front on mk1 golf ones, where 225lbs would be perfect for road

well i prefer a hard road set up, thats why I'm happy with cheaper ones, but its all a matter of personal choice. do you do alot of miles?

I've got some racelands and i love them, think the ride is awesome! I drive brand new toyota's all day and I'm actually happy to be driving my slammed polo on racelands cos 1. I can actually feel the road and 2. when i hit a bump the car doesnt bounce around after I've hit it, its just over and done with straight away. I can understand that spending £700+ on coilovers probably makes the car incredibly comfy and handle amazing, but at the end of the day, i dont have £700 to spend, so i bought some racelands and a year and a half after fitting them I'm still smiling :) hope that helps!

Having looked about in the past it would appear , raceland, ta technix, hot tuning etc are all the same sets. Wheras joms are different. I think the first lot go the lowest but I hear better feedback on the joms.

I'm running ta technix all the way down with helpers out on my 6n2 and my best friend gets genuinely angry at the road quality, to the point of violence hahaha

Sorry guys I haven't had any notifications from your comments for some reason :( I have about 200 to spend, my mates got a lupo slammed on technix but I can't find them anywhere to buy from anymore iv heard that joms are low but there a crap ride but I dunno, technix seem comfy on a lupo so I was hoping for something like that :) I am looking for a drop off about 100mm at least as I have just bought a set of Porsche Teledials 15x7 and want it looking "lower than your nans tits" excuse the expression :) I'm running 14's ATM I think they are off a golf or something a's they are not standard to a polo, I have lowering springs ATM and it just looks too high for my liking lol :) cheers guys :)

Noob question:

You've for a spring and a shock that kind of makes up the coilover but it is not a coilover

What's the difference with a coil over and spring setup apart from the adjustable bit.

I read somewhere the coilover spring is designed in a special way. Something about the way it reacts to bumps is different to the sping and shock setup.

Most coilovers use narrow springs compared to a standard setup . The joms tho use a different kinda spring (progressivly wound I think) tho that is similar to an oe style spring that's got adjustable collars.

Personally if not going low I'd spend the money on a set of lowering springs and matched dampers as you will usually get better quality item for the money vs a cheap coilover kit.

To the point that you will get better quality stuff per £ to a point vs cheap coilies yes.

Nowt wrong with the cheap stuff for normal road use. Just keep your insurance informed obviously, and get it lowered! People who complain about ride quality in lowered cars are picking holes in Swiss cheese - of course it's gonna be hard! Tried Hottuning?

You dont get what you dont pay for.

Generally speaking Pig-tail springs should provide a better ride. Especially on the road where hard spring rates are unfavourable.

I have TA techniks on my mk1 golf. Since iv not been driving it my lower back has been in much better condition!

KW V1's on a rado I had for a while were a good example of quality coilovers. Smooth on the road over bumps etc, yet sit flat in the corners. The opposite of the T/A's basically!

Agree with lower back! Budget coilies are bad for your health

I had budget JOM coilovers in my 9n3 Polo and i had no complaints with them.

Compared to my mates Polo 9n3 who had more costly coilovers, he said mine were better as they went lower and had a firmer ride in corners

Ap are good for the money but is personally try put a little more to em and get some weitecs.
