Being a nice day, I thought I'd finally get round to changing the back brakes on the daily (corsa). All went together lovely apart from firing a return spring. Adjusted up just right, pulled up evenly, handbrake adjusted to just the right place. So I went for a road test, brakes felt spot on, it held on the handbrake on 3 clicks for a hill start. So I pulled up outside the house, though I'll just roll it along at 2mph and yank the handbrake to make sure it stops on it.

POW! Snapped the cable

Priced up a new one on ECP, offside is £4, nearside £14... yep, it's the nearside. Did the click and collect, then realised I'd missed the cuttoff time to collect it today

Knew I should have spent today on the Audi!

Lesson learned: Get a new daily.

i was bowling around in that white mk2 golf i had with only one side of the handbrake working, just did it up super tight

Not so easy when the handbrake will go to vertical without doing anything

Fixed it now - Europarts Derby are awesomely efficient. I was about to phone then and see if there was any chance they could get me the parts tonight, I'd half dialled the number and they phoned up to say they were ready!

Matt, as soon as you can find me a VAG that fits the following criterea I'll admit buying the corsa was a mistake:

Able to insure on a commercial policy

60+mpg

No rust

Good on the motorway

Reliable enough to do 1000 mile in a week

Cost <£1000 with a full test.

Just cus its not a vw doesnt mean its not a good car lol ..

Corsa's diesle's are perfect for the task in hand .. cheap and chearful ..

I do... and fuck it needs an intercooler. It's like 30bhp in the day, 90 at night. That Chinese we had took 2 secs off the 0-60 time.

Damn right. I get paid 25p/mile, it costs me 12-13p a mile to fuel. I bought it in February for £900, spent £200 on tyres, the same on tax, £40 on a service, £24 on brake shoes and cables and if I walked outside now and chucked a match in it I'd be £500 in profit
