hi, noob here. here's a photo of a mk2f (mk3) gt's engine. can anyone tell me if it's a 75hp or 55hp one? i'm looking for a gt 75bhp to have as an everyday ride but here in spain there are some that are badged as a gt but they have a 1.3 55hp engine.

It's not injection so presume 55bhp, I noticed the master cylinder is on the opposite side as it is in other countries where I belive a gt was like the coupe s, high spec but not equipped with the gt engine

thanks richman711. it seems most are high spec 55bhp over here in spain. hard to find a 75bhp gt

what about this one from a mk2? is it a 75bhp engine? as i said i'm a complete noob! i'm not interested in mechanic etc but i'd like a cheap classic ride, something a bit different. the polo gt was a car i always wanted when i was 18 (37 now!)

That ones injection so could possibly be a gt, although it could always be a NZ engine code and I'm not sure how to visually tell them a part:((

Basically if its got the plastic air filter box on the left hand side ( unless some ones messed with it ) its multiport injection, what means its ether a gt or a nz.

A nz is nothing special It's multiport but still only 55bhp

ok thanks again. is there a way to tell a GT and a NZ apart? how can you tell it has an injection? total noob stuff!

NZ is special its better than an SPI mpg wise anyway and it's pretty nippy well mine seems too be anyway

You can tell the 55bhp NZ engine from the 75bhp 3F engine by looking at the ignition coil, ignition distributor and ECU.

An NZ car will have a cylindrical ignition coil, and a distributor with a vacuum advance 'flying saucer' bolted to the side of it. The NZ ECU will be labelled 'Digijet'.

A 3F engine has a square ignition coil, and as the ignition advance is fully controlled by the ECU, there is no 'flying saucer' vacuum advance module on the distributor. The 3F ECU is labelled 'Digifant'.

do you see that aluminium like about 2 inch tube that goes round the left hand side of the engine, the one on mine is fucked and I want to know what it is and what it does

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that there was a 75bhp mk2 polo available in europe that was carbed and that the uk didn't get the 75bhp gt, but instead a gt sheel with 55bhp engine badged as the coupe S. Worth mentioning as the opening poster is madrid based.
