front engine fwd engines with power

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of what engine to fit in my grass track car for next season, alot of people seem to go redtop's or some are moving towards the duratec range.

its got to be 2.0+ free reving and lots of power. not wanting boost as dont have time for it to kick in. usual sort of power is 220bhp range. some people push close to 300 in a n/a redtop!

sooo whats your opinion of a good engine. at the moment i have a mi16 engine which is pretty stock. i have a gti6 bottom end i was going to build as a 2.1 etc but not sure if i should save my money and go for something else. any ideas?

I was thinking mi16 to be honest ....

B18 engine? 170-200hp depending which model and rev to 9K

If he hasn't got time to wait for a turbo to spool up to hit the power band, then I doubt he will have time to wait for the engine to get to about 6k for it

Vtec- All the lag.. Non of the boost lol

And all of the gayness.

Yeah but that's only once pulling off....as long as its in the right gear he will be on the power!

Same goes for any engine really tho, keep it in the power band and you have power, its just a bit pointless that you have to work through most of the useable rev range of most engines before you get to the powerband of one of these. If your gonna do that might as well go for a decent turbo lump and make the wait worthwhile

fuck it off and finish your 6n

Olly polo will be done another time.

It's a pug 205 ATM but want to build a new one full space frame an flat floor (thinking 6n)

I only hit high revs once an thts pulling off the line. Thn I hit second an dont change after that.

Vtec is complicated an expensive as will need a better ecu to control the Vtec.

it wont, you know what 6ns are like - itl be rotten away long before you touch it

Toyota 4-AGE are supposedly very good, a couple of my mates have fitted them into their elderly Fords.

Those or a redtop I would suggest!

2.6L 230bhp lump out of a rex8?

or the engine out of an Alpha GTV 220bhp?

Red tops as much as I want to say a vag option it has to be the Redtop it ticks all your boxes

redtop does seem to be the best choice these days.

Judging by Google the k20 came in this shape type R?

A lad from work had one of those and tried to impress us on the way back from domino's one lunch time, I felt obliged to do that 'oh, that goes ok don't it' thing when he looked over at me in 'so what do you think?' Kinda way afterwards

Only experience of V-tech I've had and I honestly couldn't see what the fuss was about :?

we have a vtec engine at college, coupled wth boost, and we've mapped it so the turbo comes in at the same time as vtec, massive win!!!

its like being punched in the face

I didn't, I had to google it

If that's your only impression of VTEC then you've formed your opinions around the wrong car...infact what's widely regarded just to be Type R by badge alone.

Go get yourself into a DC2 Integra or an EK9 Civic and see what VTEC is all about. Epic engine if you can keep them on the boil, but it's difficult, really need to be driving flat out...and on the road that's not really possible.

If you want a 2.0 N/A engine to make 200bhp + and easy to mod the all options have been discussed really. Redtop/Duratec or the Pug lump...

tbh i work with a lad with a mk4 golf gti, 1.8 20vt which is modded and running bout 240hp but torquier and theres fuck all between that and a civic (older than that above triangulated piece of shit)
