My moneys on a wheel bearing too, the Gs front bearing didnt have much play in it, but was loud.

Inspected it and 3 of the ball bearings were grinding out of the casing

Yea get the car on a 2 poster ideal if you can't get the car up to speed on road test for what ever reason.

And your right about the load, that's where the stethoscope comes in, i was taught this by a proper old boy and i have diagnosed quite a few wheel bearings this way, especially the ones where the noise isn't exactly obvious.

where do you hold the stethoscope to diagnose a wheel bearing on a car doing 60mph on a ramp?
