Wheel bearings rear

Featured Replies

Hi, my rear wheels started whining, and this has developed into a drone that gets worse at around 60mph

I've jacked the rear up and there is no play in the wheels however on rotation by hand there is an obvious noise, my gut feeling is the wheel bearings will need replacement, or could it be something else?

The car in question is a 6n 1.4 8v, 5 door, lowered on Weitec Hicon GT Coilovers, on standard steels wheels..

Cheers guys.

This is likely to be the wheel bearing making the noise, but it could also be a broken brake spring or other component moving around in the brake drum.

You need to remove the drum in either case.

If it is the bearing, I and others have put a guide on here as to how to set about the task.

If you are changing the bearings, it is normal practice to change both sides.

Apart from cleanliness, the main consideration is getting the adjustment correct - better SLIGHTLY too loose, that too tight.

Regards.
