Anyone running a GED bar and ARB blocks? What's the clearance to ARB like?

Basically I'm making a bar up currently, and it just looks as though as soon as the ARB moved forward it will clash, I'd anyone could get pics of the clearance or the tube thickness, and how the end is, I was making mine offset so the cross tube would sit about 15mm away from the mounting surface on the ARB brackets

Nah it's fine - look at where the bar will mount on the arb mounts - in the bolt holes where it changes angle up. Leaves enough space. At a guess the GED item uses 20-25mm steel with appropriate end flat pieces - note one end flat will need to be offset on angle.

Hmmm, it's difficult to know what you've made and how that compares to a 'GED' bar. I can only tell you for certain that a 'GED' bar and arb blocks work fine together. Do you have the arb blocks fitted atm?

I've got a 'GED' bar you can borrow for sizing etc if you like?

I've got an original brace bar, made by Ged, on mine. And a set of G-Laderseite ARB blocks.

The two bars are close - about a finger width apart if I remember. I'll get some pics later but it's quite oily as my charger drain leaked for a while.

Well the actual GED bars as such are a bit of tube about 20mm right? With 90 degree plates on the end.

Then one edge of the tube is basically in line with the mounting surface yeah? So the cross bar is about 20-25mm of the plates you bolt it to?

I made one from around 25-30mm tube which clears the ARB fine without blocks, I was making another with 25mm, with 90 degree brackets welded on like a GED bar, but so the tube sits off the mounting brackets about 10mm (brackets are L shaped instead of just an equal 90 bracket) but the angle it mounts at it still looks as if it may class.

Be handy to know how much the ARB brackets move the bar forwards?

get yourself sorted i would have had this mocked up and made by now trial and error

just tack weld try it and if it needs moving you know how much and can just do it then

oh and i think the arb blocks move the arb forward between 10 and 15mm

I have mocked it up, no ARB blocks on atm means I can't do it by trial and error, all I can do is a guesstimation

I wouldn't have asked if it wasn't something I wanted info on

See as you can't make it on the car ATM then - why not copy a tried and tested 'GED' bar???

That's the design I was using. Just wanted to know what clearance was like with blocks tbh, don't worry about it I'll work it out.

I love how GED bars are always capped and in quotation marks.

Ged = Ged McConville = the guy who built the taffeta green G40 with the Rallye headlamps that was in PVW eight years ago (and it was peach beforehand, featured in PVW 14 years ago)

It's like Chinese whispers. Ged's brace bars, became GED bars. It's not an abbreviation. It's just a front brace bar, originally made by a guy called Ged.

I'm fully aware of that, I just call it that so people know what I mean, I call it a lower brace to people not from the polo scene but that might confuse people on here, seeing as in my build thread I call mine a nick bar

I was also fully aware! Though Alex explained it in another post which is how I found out..!

It's only really the capitalisation that leads to the confusion - GED seems like an acronym or product, where Ged is easier to place as a name.

Good luck 'arris - so long as you stick close to the tried and tested it will be fine for clearence.

Well my original prototype has been fitted and Iv just finished it off so will see
