Obtaining Classic Insurance with a Non-Disclosure Cancellation

Featured Replies

Up until a few days ago I was insured with Endsleigh on my Polo 6N for a reasonable rate. After 3 months, they've now cancelled my policy for non-disclosure of further information that was apparently requested by them. It was down to an innocent mistake by myself and remained unresolved due to poor communication. Personally I don't think I am at fault but nevertheless I am being held accountable and who is to blame is not what I want to discuss at the moment.

It seems there is nothing I can do to reverse this decision and that I am now 'blacklisted' because of the reason behind this cancellation that Endsleigh made. Endsleigh say they will no longer insure me, and that I must declare this cancellation to every insurance company I try to get cover from for the next 3 years of my life. Apparently it is not only likely that I will get charged a shit load more money on my premiums, but that some insurance companies will refuse to cover me altogether.

If this all sounds about correct, could anyone please tell me if classic car insurers will be just as anal about this? Now that I'm 22, I'm sure I'll be eligible for some form of classic insurance, and I'm just weighing up the costs of getting my Beetle back on the road if the insurance is likely to be less on that. If anyone could provide some classic insurance company names that are not only cheap for old VWs, but may offer insurance for people with non-disclosure cancellations against their name such as myself, I'd be very grateful.

Also, if anyone has any other stories or experiences similar to mine that we can rant about to make ourselves feel a little less bullied, pissed off and depressed, please feel free.

Thanks in advance.

You have a few options; One being just take it and deal with it, the other would be to persue legal action. If you really do have a case and you can prove that the communication they provided prior to cutting you off was against the T+Cs you agreed to when you took it out (like they never sent you a doc saying what they needed in return or any reminders) then you'll have a good chance of winning.

If they did send you stuff but you just forgot, then you'll lose, and you have no other option than to just deal with it.

Thanks for the concise summary Nev, since writing this I have established that it was actually my fault, albeit an innocent mistake and not a case of attempted fraud as the branding implies.

I've now come to accept that I'll be on this blacklist as a nondisclosure cancellation and that I'm going to have to pay for it for the next 3 years. To be honest I'm now more interested in what my options are for obtaining insurance from now, and whether as mentioned obtaining classic insurance on my beetle might be a better option than trying to obtain insurance on a normal policy in my polo.

It would be good to hear from people in the same situation as me who could perhaps tell me how much their premiums went up, whether there were some companies that refused them cover and whether there are options for classic car insurance out there. I realise I'll still have to obtain some quotes myself but it's always encouraging to hear advice from third parties and those who have been down this road before.

The best tip I can give is to avoid insurers where you cannot speak to them verbally/in person so you can put your case across.
