NCB, how long does it last??

Featured Replies

Although I'm a named driver on my wifes policy, and on a policy with work for my company van, I haven't had an insurance policy of my own since February '05. I have full no claims bonus with a letter of proof.

How long does the NCB last for before I have to have a policy of my own again??

Thanks in advance,

Richard.

I ran into this problem recently.

My brief recap: Was a student for a couple of years. Did my bit to keep the planet green and used buses (saved pennies too). Now got a car again, only to find that any no claims I used to have is no longer valid. :-(

Some companies were willing to consider no claims earned as far back as 3 years, but the general consensus seemed to be 2 years.

Given that you haven't had a policy in your name since last February, I think you'd be safe up to Feb '07. Just make sure you keep that letter of proof and policy number/details for your new insurance when the time comes. That way they should give you what you're entitled to.

If in doubt, call around a bit. Most are freephone numbers. Good luck.

Cheers for that.

I thought it was 2 years for some reason too.

Always best to check with the powers that be.
