Surely you changed the oil the other day after you split the sump? That's pretty much the only time my cars get an oil change, although tbh its normally well within the recommend service interval

whats the reccomended for oil changes? it had a cambelt and a few other bits january-ish time last year (when the engine was in the 6n), maybe that was when he changed the oil

either way, wont matter now that youve smashed the sump i spose, did you find another or weld it up?

Apparently his wheels "poked" too much though he was running illegal pressed plates so fair enough to that. But there again, the copper was trying to revoke his MOT etc etc and was also banging on about the headlight tint being illegal etc.

If I were you, i'd stick some arch trims on like mentioned and take it to an MOT testing station to see what they think. Also talk to other police officers etc etc.

I AM pritty sure that the sticker on the front is illegal due to its size and location but can not see why they pulled u over for wheels as they look allright to me.

Unfortunately the law is an arse and with MOT s tightening up and making it more and more difficult for people with older cars with the rigorous testing ,there has been plenty of write ups in the car magazines about the do's and dont's for the future that customising a car will be a thing of the past . I have a immaculate 6n which rarely gets driven but I've got subtle bits done like the wheels etc and about 2 months ago when on my way to a show i got pulled alongside a duel carriageway and from what i could see was they seemed to be pulling cars that were older than 10 or so yrs . i generally thought they were going to compliment me on how tidy the car was after their inspection but no they had to find a couple of errors one of which were the hanging dice on the mirror and the slight corrosion on the suspension brackets which led me to think that sooner or later they will be driving all old cars off the streets .

My old mans an mot tester in Cardiff, and he was telling me a few years ago a mk3 polo came in for mot. It had 165s on 9j banded steels. Which even in my opinion is excessive and unsafe. But he couldn't fail it. He phoned vosa and all they said was, 'is the tread sticking out of the arch?' no. And 'are there the same size tyres on each axle' yes. That's it. Pass and advise. I think you were just unlucky to catch a bored traffic cop who'shaving a bad day/ who's just a prick. Your wheel and tyre set up is perfectly legal as far as vosa are concerned.

I've never had any trouble with poke or stretch.. even when i was running 13x8 and 9j wellers on my Jetta which poked a fair amount.. and I had a copper pull up next to me at the traffic lights and said it looked cool and that was it.

But as what everyone else is saying, take it to an mot tester to see what they say and take it further.. fuck having arch trims

Tbh tho they did poke a retarded amount all round, and although I very much doubt he had the power to actually crush my car, I know full well he had the power to give me enough point for me to loose my license if he wanted to, so it was bye bye wellers

This thread, as well as all the others before it about poke/stretch, highlights the view that it is a grey area in the law. The old bill can pull you over to have a look around your car, and will likely make up a reason just to do so. I've been pulled a few times for reasons such as my car being 'uninsured'. Funnily enough when they checked again all was fine. They just wanted to have a look at me and the car because I had been seen in a lay by late at night, making a phone call. Obviously looked dodgey to them. If your car is legal, and its your responsility to make sure it is, this should be little more than an inconvenience. It's a ball ache to go to a tester, but thats what you get for driving a bait motor thats blurring the lines between legal and illegal.

If it wasn't for the sticker bussiness, I'd have said the copper just wanted a snoop about your car to make sure all's above board. But he does sound like he was on a little bit of a power trip. Again, being a young male driver in a modified car, your more liekly to attract unwanted attention. As Guy has said, the old bill can make your life more difficult if you decide to get shitty, so if you come up against a prick, thats tough shit. I once had a rage at a copper for pulling me for no seatbelt (i had driven 100m and just lost my job that day) and he flat out said he'd check my car and look for faults if i kept it up. They only need to suspect a problem and they'll have a butchers. Keep on the right side of the law, which imo is fairly relaxed for modified cars in this country compared to some European conutries, and you'll hopefully have nothing more than an inconvenience.

Not really, as long as its declared to the insurance there really isn't much they can do, the taxation class is still the same so its not like they could sting him with back dated road tax. If the copper wants to get shirty about it "i only put the engine in last weekend officer and I have sent off all paper work and am awaiting the dvla to send me a new log book so eat my arse"
