Ahh I get you, well I now have a welder :-) and a large sheet of mild steel to get some practice on. After my exam at uni today and Wednesday I will be cracking on with the car. I will get the bay welded up and finish the smoothing, I have everything I need now, and I will be dropping off a load of bay bits to the powder coater's. Also go a new drill, so I can drill some new loom holes in the bay wall ect and fit my new vice to help with flaring the new brake lines. Literally all I will be doing is working on the car and training for my next fight in February in Leicester on the 22nd ha

This welding business is tough , any tips ?

Auto darkening helmet?

Practise on scraps and offcuts?

City and Guilds MIG level 1 welding course - approx £400 for 10 weeks of evening classes.

Though with your cage fighting you might want "MMA" level 1 welding.

From my taekwondo I know keeping your fists tight while punching is best way to prevent injury - but once you've cracked a knuckle - and it's healed again - you can use less force for same destructive effect. That's from punching through boards not people. We wear dipped foam mitts for sparring. But -as Bruce Lee says "boards don't hit back".

Looking good mate, Comon tho GTI fest is soon!

Looks good man, top work!

So this is how I left it last, fine filler in areas which needed it.

finefillerinbay_zps243f215c.jpg

Cheers guys, been in there today getting some more bits done, literally the smoothness of the battery tray is left then paint :-) . All the fine filler is rubbed down and smooth, but the battery tray is in such an awkward place. Was a fuck about grinding away the fire wall there ect, all that effort and the tray wont even house the battery no more lol.

Started routing new brake lines.

routingnewbrakelines_zpse29d3deb.jpg

I think I may try to heat wrap the lines, just a thought, could look good.

I have raised up the rear of the car and removed the wheels, the drum brakes are off and the rear cross member is nearly off.

I will be sending the rear cross member, the rear wiper, hand brake bracket and drum brakes are all off to the powder coaters.

And have ordered :

rear brake flexis

rear cross member bushes

hand brake cables

rear brake master cylinders

rear wheel bearings

All from Euro for £66 bargain

A reply to my message would be nice.

Keep it up.

  • Author

I have not seen the message bud. Will look now.

So a bit more progress, had to stop for a mo as I am up to my ears in uni work. I have stripped the back end so I can under seal it all up, eg the arches and under the rear beam. Powder coating the rear beam, all new brake cables and bushes, home the bike fuel pump back under the car and new brake lines.

Mucky rear arches

passangerreararch_zps058e5e1a.jpg

driverreararch_zps9d0d4135.jpg

I removed my rear brake cable brackets, they were so fkt, I had to grind them off. I luckily found a guy on Ebay who made 2x new ones in stainless for £17 posted

handbrakecablebrackets_zpsa56c7ecf.jpg

I was going to put on rear discs, but I cannot be arsed with the mess around and cost for next to know improvements. I will strip these and powder coat them, add new cylinders ect.

Rusty brake cable commentators, off to powder coaters.
