3 tins of under seal

desmo roof rack

I haven't had time to look at my engine just yet, iff the damage is serious I think I will go for the AEE 1.6 8v, will just need to replace my bike carbs manifold and extend my new stainless 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.

How ever my Desmo roof rack arrived yesterday, I have dismantled it ready for powder coater's and all new screws. Going to be black, and also my new black under seal has arrived for the car pan and arches.

Edited by dart_strife

Once you go black you never go back :p

Your 4-2-1 may not need extending mate, I can't remember if the bit of the sump it goes by is deeper on a 6n or not

We will have to clear that up , as iff my mani does fit, I'm tempted to upgrade as I only need to get bike carb mani

mine fitted but rubbed on the drieshaft flange. bit of bending and itl be fine.

Started removing the sump today , one bolt of the 20 left to go, but its behind the drive shaft flange , one drive shaft bolt is fucked , so will get some irwins on it tomorrow , and I know I will need them on the Allen bolts on the alternator pully , who's frickin idea was it to use Allen bolts.

Never have a problem with socket cap bolts, just need to use the right size tool? lol.

  • Author

Yes that's a given , but torx or allen heads when they are over 20 years old are worn and corroded aint they lol ,new bolts after wards :-)

AEE OR AFH , AFH bro!!!!

After some thought , it is kdt definantly pointless repairing the ABD bottom end , it needs weighing in , I will pull it out and remove all ancillaries, head ect . The GT head is fine. The metal shards would have done a great job of scratching internal parts. Big engine time

Buy my AEE Y0

lol I was so tempted by the AEE, but AFH it is bro, bought for £120 as 90k miles, picked up from Leek. I have everything I need, except the halfords alternator belt and the oil T-piece from a G40, a little help would be nice on the T-piece fellers

  • Author

T-piece is now sorted thanks to gaz , the legend , still need the alternstor belt though , part number on faq is obsolete

  • Author

Alternator belt is sorted thanks to Mclovin, cheers bro !! £5 posted, bargain.

So I have ordered for the AFH so far:

Head gasket set, this does not include the rocker gasket, need to find this

Head gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, 2x cam gaskets £46

Head bolts x10 £20

Thermostat housing / thermostat / o - ring £27

Rocker cover sealant £5.32

Sump gasket off mk2f reg £6.06

Oil pressure T-piece £11.44

Inlet manifold gasket off 1.6 16v reg £8.13

Oil filter £2.99

Sump sealant £3.15

Water pump £21.65

Spark plugs x4 £ 7.56

Oil seal transmission end £8.37

Halfords alternator belt £5

Sump plug £1.03

Sump washer £0.29

So i still need a timing belt kit and rocker cover gasket, oil seal timing end

Edited by dart_strife

Dart strife, just wondering where did you order them bits from mainly the bolts for the rocker I need

  • Author

Shirley9293 on eBay pal , that's were I got the head bolts , that list consists of eBay and euro car parts

Its all coming together now, need your rocker cover man.

lol matt you must be tired, yes I know I also need the gasket. will call VW and order one today, just will also give it a smear of sealant. The timing marks on the engine are confusing me how ever, look at this pic, this is how i got the engine, I have turned the bottom pully round so the mark is ligned up, and the cam sprockets look like this ......

AFH timing marks

Haha that's what's getting up at 4am does to you

Edited by matt-c

bottom pulley should have chamfered tooth.

That should line up with the crank casing mark which has 4v on it.

The top pulleys should have two little dots which line up together..

IRRC that is the correct way of timing the afh up, Some one correct me if i am wrongs :)

  • Author

4v ? there is a Z then a O bud, so its not the multiple line of dots, its the single dot on a tooth. So they meet up left pulley at 3 oclock and right pulley 9 oclock ? and should the bottom pulley mark meet at Z or O ?

Thats ignition timing marks mate !

IF you take the aux pully off you will understand what i mean :)

Yeah an even tho the aux pulley has a locating peg it's still not too accurate lol.

Chamfered tooth to a notch oil on seal housing

Put a little bit of paint on my aux pully timing mark to make life easier when it comes to setting timing ..

Wont help though as the plastic cover moves lol
