RR day figures

RR day graph

Well the RR day in Birmingham was good, the cars first club polo event. Gave the car its first good run since the conversion, think i did 300 miles all in. Car drove very well, its so quick off the mark, 2nd and 3rd gears and its a rocket. I got the car too 110 mph easy and it was just pushing and pushing for more. Was nice to meet some faces, and I'm looking forward to more club polo events.

The rollers reading was a real dismantlement for me, Bogg Bros said the car hit 100 bhp, but the readings say 79.5 bhp on the day. The car is capable of 100 bhp and I will get it. Issues to address first:

Air filters, the four cone filters are restrictive i reckon, i am looking at a piper cross / bike air box / also metal mesh

Exhaust, the cat is restricting the horse power. I am going to remove this, iff it fails on emissions then I will need to find some one who will put through for a bribe lol. The Phil Jackson exhaust is going, its too loud especially with bike carbs on. I am currently sourcing a full G40 system.

GT/G40 rear lights

8v 421 exhaust manifold 1

8v 421 exhaust manifold 2

Cheers bud, will be tip top soon enough.

I have received my GT rear lights yesterday £20 Delivered, bargain !

Also today I received a stainless 4-2-1 de cat four branch exhaust manifold from Germany, I had to buy one because I have found it impossible to buy a G40 de cat pipe new. With my new custom manifold that has been on a month, I dont know what I will be doing with it just yet, sell it or keep it for another car. I could have cut, bent and welded new pipe in my self, but i dont have the equipment or experience.

I am also waiting on a G40 center pipe and rear silencer new from Germany.

I think you should get a nice 1.75" single silenced stainless exhaust made up :)

Your torque is pretty decent, what box you using..?

Great work man, Get that exhaust sorted haha!!

Well I am thinking of having the friend who made my manifold sort my tail pipe out , maybe extend it and turn it up. You got a pick of what your recommending Harris ? I don't know what box it is, I will get the numbers ASAP .

Just get custom man, gotta have some exhaust noise to match the induction!

How is it on fuel? Any idea where Bogg Bros set your ignition timing? Are you using vac advance?

I can't remember what the dizzy is set too, will get a picture tomorrow. My cam is set up to factory markings. I dont have the vac set up to the inlet manifold no, mikeymk said its a waste of time. I have also text dubownerwilko about sending my vac advance dizzy off to have then curve changed, but he said he couldn't tell the difference. I'm thinking bout putting a momo wheel on, or a GT one too.

And fuelling, it was never correct before hand because I had the ABD running on a AAU ecu, and the cast manifold was blowing due to snapped bolts. So fuelling was out, now that it is set up it seems to be a tad more juicy than it was. So I would say its correct and I'm happy with it, stay below 20 revs and its good on fuel, put your foot down and It does drink, but the power delivery and pull you get is so strong, I can understand why it will drink lol.

G40 centre exhaust section new

G40 center section has arrived from Germany £74

Edited by dart_strife

You didn't tell me you got this!! haha

Little things combined tie together to make a nice setup, I have found the 8vs a bit sensitive ignition wise.

And mikey runs vac advanced himself! So dunno where you got that from lol, he gets his vacuum from the carbs though not the manifold

powder coated inline fuel pump housing

G40 exhaust rear box new

G40 rear exhaust pipe

Also these came today:

G40 back box from Germany £39

Powder coated fuel pump and filter bracket / battery clamp £15

I thought I did when I whats appt you bro lol, I have ordered some exhaust clamps off ebay too £3.50 for two stainless ones, I am thinking I will high temperature paint my centre and rear exhaust then fully heat wrap them again too before I put them on. The car will be so much quieter, not restricted by the cat too.

Then I just need to sort out the air filter.

Yes Mikey may run the vac advance pipes, and yes off the inlet manifold. But I do have PM's off him saying it is a waste of time bud.

I keep having issues starting the car up, I'm sure my starter motor is going, good job I have the ABD one which also has a higher power out put when starting, will give it a go this week to see iff it sorts out the issue.

Vac advanced won't see you any more power really, as it virtually does nothing on your flat out power curves, just gives nicer drivability and slightly better economy/emissions and tiny bit better throttle response. Saying that I don't run it haha

Cool, is that the kind of tail pipe you referring too ? I have a feeling it will look quite nice, so may extend it and bend it up, but then again may not lol.

Andy looks savage, Sort the backbox out man!

Andy looks savage, Sort the backbox out man!

I am , just waiting on some more exhaust wrap bro .

Also going to take off the damaged decals from winter , replace them. Add some more new ones too , then cover them all with a sheet of clear wrap to stop the damage again.

And I have also recieved heat conductive glue and paint to repair my lines on the rear window and reattach a contact on one side. Both came to £10 off eBay , great compared to the prices of repair kits on the web.

Front 60mm lowering springs are on the way £30 posted.

Looking for a front splitter.

Running the carbs with no filter till I sort out my piper cross.

I have put my de badged front grill on . Ready for my new suprise badge for it he he

Exhaust sounds tinny, and i can here a funny noise in the bay when i put my foot down from stand still, also the engine now shudders a bit more than usual, need to figure out what's wrong. I have de catted the system and unrestricted with g40 49.5 bore pipes, do i need to change my timing or adjust my carbs again ?

Also i didn't use exhaust putty, should i ? it looks like the clamps sealed the pipes well, i could see small drops of condensation dropping out of the seems when i had it running, so i tightened the clamps up until it stopped dropping out, and i couldn't see and exhaust fumes.

i also filled my petrol tank to full and drove the car round until practically empty, i did 300 miles, so roughly got 30 miles to the gallon, not bad.

IIRC it will need looking at as the flow will now be different man!

Did you run two cats on your old system :S lol

And any reason why u didnt rap all the manifold ..

may need a tweek of carbs but not much

If the exhaust is sounding a bit tinny try tightening the manifold nuts up.

Should have wrapped the whole manifold mate, the bit in the bay gets hottest and makes the air in the bay hotter Lolz
