Sounds daft but crushed up dish washer tablets, works well cleaning the system after a HG has gone.

There not that expensive to replace around £20 IIRC

I half filled mine up with old nuts and bolts, sealed it up and half filled with kitchen cleaner. Then shook the crap out of it!
