Right, so turns out after a heavy rainfall tonight my open air roof isn't that waterproof

It's managing to piss it down the A-Pillars and into the footwells (whilst going over some of the fusebox ) and the same for the rear. I've managed to park it on the flat for tonight however still a nightmare.

Having a look around for roofs and i've stumbled upon this:

What are peoples opinions on it? Obviously it's fooking cheap! However does anyone reckon it will be any good? Or has anyone purchased one of these?

Is there actually a hole in the fabric that's letting water in?

If not then its most probably a blocked drain pipe or maybe there is agile in the tray. Either way you should investigate by taking down the roof liner and have a look.

There are no drains for an openair roof. The metal fram under it that fits from the inside creates a dam like effect to stop water running into the car and make it all run off outside.

I haven't had a close look at one but that sounds like a bit of a design flaw.

Surely there is some sort of service kit ie new seals etc?

Yep :( however mine somehow flows into the car, down the a-pillars and into the footwell!

Also does this down the boot.

Gonna try get a better condition one and re-seal it!

Looks like the outer rubber down the driverside that keeps the roof tight has split :(

Aren't these available from vw? Surely renewing the rubbers will be cheaper ten getting a whole new roof??

Just had a though, aren't these roofs made by a third party, they look similar to once I've seen on classic minis. I think there name starts with a W but I can remember there name.

Edit- its webasto sunroof co, I'm sure they must have something similar and would most probably have the seals?

if its under the roof liner will just abit of tigerseal not do the job?

Am new to this website and in need of some much needed help,So i hope that there is someone that can point us in the right direction.

I am a expat living Cyprus and just bought a Volkswagen Polo 1.0 Open Air,Just the right car for sunny Cyprus.

When i bought the car i knew that the sunroof does not open and came with some leaks too. i thought it would be a easy fix,but after having a look to see why the roof is not opening i found out that the sunroof motor is ok and it seem to be the cables that need to be replaced.

I have been looking everywhere to find these cables New or Second hand.I did manage to find only one on Ebay for £225.95 which i think is a bit much.link below.

I would keep trying them as their turnover of stock is quite fast.

In the parts listing there is a "repair kit/ guide with cable" listed for the frame P/no 6N0898031 listed @ 83€uros in Germany

New to the forum. I have the same problem.

Water all over (from above and also puddles below), first trying to fix the leaks from the top, I can at least see where they come from since I removed the headliner.

After searching the net for at least 3 hours, you were the first I found, who wrote the above statement down. I was sure there needed to be drains, I was convinced that mine was just missing them for some reason. So thanks for the short and clear explanation!!!

Did you end up fixing the thing without having to buy a new roof? Could you let us know how you solved it?
