I work in a Hospital Car park and it really gives you proof that people cant drive for shit, never mind park.

Some of my other greatest hits include getting told off by a traffic warden for parking on a mini roundabout (they couldn't ticket me because it wasn't roadside , and coverring 16 spaces in a supermarket car park because I'd got the trailer on and fancied a milkshake.

I always have and always will use that parking technique. As said, i dont want absolute fucktards banging my car as they haul thier fat careless asses out of thier cars. Problem is, since the size of a parking bay was considered, cars have grown in size massivley, and no one seems to have thought about that. Parent and child bays are the best, especially if its raining, as they're right near the stores If anyone ever gives me greif about my parking i just tell to go away and mind their own business.

Edit: I'd be willing to bet the author of that site is somebody who knocks other peoples doors as he climbs out. And seems jealous of the (mostly) nice cars featured. Whose owners are only trying to defend their paintwork from knobs like him. Some of it is genuinely bad parking, but most of it is not alot to be worried about.

Cars have grown, but not that much. It's more a problem with people being stingy with their car park spaces.

Taking the Mk1 Polo as a base, the Polo has grown 465mm in length, 120mm in width and 130mm in height. Sounds a lot but that's only 6cm extra to account for at each side, which is the bit that's a pain when you're getting in and out of parking spaces.

Ford Mondeo has grown 580mm in length, 180mm in width and 180mm in height during the same period (i.e. compared to a Cortina Mk3). Sounds loads but that's a paltry 9cm each side, and the latest Mondeo. Not exactly horrendous for a car that's based on a people carrier!

I'm not saying cars haven't grown, of course they have, but people make out new cars are like steering the QE2. They aren't. But they've swelled the cabin to accommodate the way we've become a fatter population, which makes them look like they've grown more, and they're a lot heavier due to the safety equipment on board. Weights are coming down though, in the latest cars.

The thing is, visibility out of newer cars is nowhere near as good as in older cars. Pillars are thicker, sides are more curved along the swage, you sit further from the windscreen so you can't see the bonnet at all and tailgates often go quite a way out below the back window in a way where you can't see them in the mirrors.

My dad has a late 90's Fiat Marea saloon, and no matter what you do, you can't see the boot or the bonnet either out of the window or in any of the mirrors. The only time I ever managed to reverse it straight into a space and anywhere near up to a wall is when it's got a trailer on.

It's just another reason breadys are awesome!

Yep, agree entirely. I love parking my own car, it's so easy to work out where all four corners are. You get used to whatever you drive, obviously, but there are masses of blind spots on most new cars to get airbags into the pillars and so on. I remember the front end of my Passat curved outwards a good foot or so beyond the visible end of the bonnet.

Spooky stuff! Makes me wonder what driving tests will be like when cars emergency stop, park, maintain safe distances from the car in front, apply the handbrake and so on automatically. All sounds like stuff that'll go wrong in years to come and cost a small fortune to fix.

That and it'll be like when my mates at college were all taking their tests in modern (late 90's) cars, and buying old cars for their first runabout. Most of them didn't know why their car was hard to start and ran like a bag of shit on cold mornings, and what the thing on the dashboard was that pulled in and out

Took my test in a 2006 fiesta tdi, with power everything. First car was a 1981 Mk1 polo 'N', with absolutely no equipment, no sound deadening, no headrests, no passenger side mirror and good old manual choke. It felt weird, but soon got used to it :-)

I used to double park and have never had any problems but I know it annoys some people so be careful. I now just park away from other people when I go shopping etc. It pisses my mrs off but it's better than getting a big door ding

I work for boots and when i have to pick up from one of the stores in a more busy area, no matter when i go there's ALWAYS people parked in the loading bay outside, proper winds me up. I just put the van as close as i can to them and hope they are blocked in til i get back i know it's not "bad" parking but it's f*cking inconsiderate and it does my bean in!

Did go into the car park once to find a Range Rover lazily parked into two spaces to I just parked up my car so close that they couldn't get in and then went a did my shopping. Appears I didnt realise the tannoy annoucement asking the owner of a "small blue station wagon" to return to their car was for me seeing as my car is an estate.
