Bad points-

Super high mileage (157k) so i ideally need a new engine

Clutch has gone

Exhaust blowing

Need new brakes

Rust/Crappy paintwork.

Plans so far-

New engine/or good service and see how it goes

New brakes

New exhaust+ mani

New clutch kit

Treat rust

Re-spray

Re-furb wheels

Coilovers

Looks good but that millage is sky high, mine has only done 54 thousand and is same age lol. But looks a real good project :)

Yeah i was literally gobsmacked at the mileage but i really didn't wanna travel for a car and i figured a new engine wouldn't be that hard to come by as these cars are common round my way.

Shouldn't be too hard to find, 6n's are super common still, 16v models not so much though.

Main thing atm is getting a new clutch and gear linkage, I've found a clutch kit on ebay but if anyone is selling a clutch or gear linkage on here PM me pleaseeee!

I can sort the majority of the rust myself and brakes and pads are easy to get hold of.

I'll do the engine stuff last because, well, i cba with all the fuss.

high miles doesn't mean new engine

engine was sound, rest of the car not so.

if the only problem is high miles then forget about engine changes, just service it well and it will be fine.

Indeed - It's a VW, it's what they do. My old Mk2 was on 168k. The engine was fine, it was just the body that was knackerred In fact, I think the cylinder head's still out there in someone's car.

I'm just being paranoid as i've never had a high mileage car before. It runs fine tho so i see what you mean. Nice to see a car with higher mileage than me haha!

Id rather an engine that had done 200k motorway miles over the same car that had done 30k miles of short journeys to and from the local school, over speed bumps and never getting up to temprature....

current car which is 4 years newer than your is on 147k and climbing.

55,000 mk2. - just over 2000 miles a year. yayyy

i wouldnt worry about the mileage though. it would never put me off a car. i have a friend whos passatt is on well over 320,000 and drives like any other passat
