Nah i'm gonna save my money up for now and get everything at once and get it in the garage. Having parts sitting round my house will drive me crazy, i currently have a BMX in my living room and my spare bedroom has a bucket seat and a spoiler in it.

I would'nt worry too much about the mileage

mine clocked this last month, it has'nt used a drop of oil in the last 3 or 4 years since I last serviced it runs sweet as nut and starts first turn of the key, just give it a service, first with cheap oil, run it for 50~100 miles and refill with a decent oil and a new filter

I'd have to challange that statement! in the 4 1/2 years I've owned mine, I've only had to replace the battery after two weeks of owning it and I've replaced service items like brakes front n rear and rear wheel bearings. I've got a cambelt to fit but cba to fit it and i've no idea when it was last done

Is there actually anything wrong with the engine..? They can do literally one million miles if looked after adequately, i know a taxi driver who put over 400k miles on an early '90s Passat with the original engine. I did 80k miles in a Vito van in under two years, and it was as good after as before.

What's more, cars need regular use to stay healthy. Mega low mileage tends to be good for interiors (as long as it's not always been parked in direct sunlight, or been damp), but every greased component from door locks to wheel bearings can wax up, so they can be more hassle to sort than a high mileage car.

No theres nothing actually wrong with the engine, the high mileage just put me off a bit. But I'm happy to service it and see how it goes :)

i think the milage is alright, just properly maintained it, should be bullet proof. my dad has a 1993 jetta which last around 1.2m miles, the chassis finally becomes not able to mend.

While you're doing your clutch cable, have a good look at the welds on your pedal box. The (Spanish :p) spot welds were a bit undercooked on them, and prevention is better than cure.

I thought the dodgy pedal boxes were limited to the 6n2's, Lupo's and some Ibiza's, at least thats what the VOSA recall refers to??

I think on the 6n2, VOSA actually limit it to the valver and GTI .... weird as they have the same pedal box as the rest.

Wouldn't be the first 6n I've seen with problems down there.

Yeah its a good enough base but i need to sort the rust out and respray the car eventually, is the paint code in the boot under the carpet?

I'm thinking i'll sort the rust myself, alot of it is surface rust so i can sand it down, use the fibre glass stuff i have and then primer over it ready for paint.

Also i ripped my bump strips off the sides but the black glue shit is impossible to get off! I've taken off some of the paint trying to get it off with my heat gun. Nightmare. It's proper stuck on like.

As for engine.. 175k is nothing unless your selling a car with a "lifetime warranty". Which apparently the lifetime of a car is 100K. I disagree.. and changing a small block motor is pretty easy if you have a brain, hands, a selction of tools and some mates.

Ok so today was a huge fail, decided to paint the car matt black, thought i'd start with the boot.

Got everything i needed, and began to sand down the boot, my BF then decides to help by taking out my rear window motor, and somehow in the process smashes my boot glass.... fantastic!

Thankfully my local scrappy had 2 mk4s so I'm picking up a new boot tommorrow, i suppose it'll be easier to spray it off the car too. Also gonna see about getting a gear linkage off the scrappy mk4 too, will deffo save me some money. And finally ordered my clutch kit. So i suppose things are coming together!

Also, i passed my theory test yesterday, so booked my driving test for mid August so hopefully by the time i pass the car will be done and ready for me!

This is now for breaking or you can just take the whole car away as i'm picking up a breadvan tommorrow.
