Guys, my loon is nearing completion of the first stage - so its nearly on the road. (only taken a year lol)

I've been working on the car in a relatives garage in Barnsley, so basically every couple of months I go up there (160 miles from Hertfordshire) for a long weekend and work like mad for 2 days.

Its now in shape for the MOT and I want it down here as I have finished the painting, serviced the engine and brakes and its now carpets/ trim etc I'm going to be working on.

So the costs look like this:

MOT £40

Insurance £160 (sorry youngsters)

TAX £135 or £75 six months.

However, while this will get me driving the polo for the first time and id really like to do his while we have some summer left, money is tight and it means I cant work on my afh conversion which is a big part of the plan (I have the engine and some of the bits already) if I spend my money on getting it on the road.

Transport company £160 ?

or

Tax for 6 months and get friend to drive on his insurance ( mot £40, Tax £75 ) or that option with temp insurance for me +£30?

So what options do I have?

Is there a way of getting the car here cheap which allows me to do the engine conversion. Or should I get it on the road and enjoy it for what it is now and put the afh on the back burner.

I have a friend who has a trailer, but I dont have a tow bar on my daily and I cant use his van as its his business.

Can any of you help with transport in any way or suggest a way of getting it down here without blowing my AFH conversion budget.

Ask your mate if he would tow the trailer with his van for fuel and beer tokens?

Get it on the road and enjoy it. Work on the AFH and get it ready to just drop in over a weekend. I'm in a similar situation where my car isn't up to scratch, but I want a little use out of it

Just to add if you do get your friend to drive it back through his insurance your car will still need insurance on it so many people get caught out with this

Totally depends on what sort of policy his mate has, most will require the car to he insured by someone else's insurance and for you to have permission from the owner. Some traders policy's ect just insure you to drive any car, not sure of the in's and out's of these policy's tho

getting it road legal and driving it is obviously the best and most fun way,

trailer and borrowing a mates car would probs be cheapest?
