VW polo 87 loon'. Got pulled cause i have german number plates. Got let off but the fuzz said they'd fine me on the spot next time if i still got them!

(no written warning or notice saying i have to!)

WHATS THE LAW ON THESE PLATES????

is there a loop hole with having these foreign number plates? surely show cars get away with them?

one officer sneakily removed one of the screws holding my back reg plate on so as i drove away it was hanging off. can't believe some of these wankers.

Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated...

They are illegal and you will get done.

Edit: Unless they're reflective and use the correct font then you'll get done. I suspect that the copper who pulled you was either finishing his shift or just couldn't be bothered.

They're illegal, end of.

Got pulled for mine explained that they aren't metal there plastic but look like metal and have all the nessersary markings and off I went ..

I got pulled in my old Mondeo for having euro pressed plates, it's down to the font and spacing which is illegal. You can however get UK road legal pressed plates for around £26 per pair which meet all the necessary criteria to avoid a fine :-)

I think its mostly the font due to ANPR cameras not being able to pick up the plate. You'd be amazed what the ANPR network can do.

So consider this, if your car has legal plates and gets nicked, there is a good chance they will be able to work out where it was and when by just entering the reg number in to a computer. If it has illegal ones, you can't.

why dont people check there legal before buying them?

German Font plates are illegal for use on the road in this country, as are any plate displaying NON-UK banding or FONT on a UK registered car.

If you run anything else then expect to be Fined and/or given points.

This includes all other fonts, and all those hello kitty, playboy, ford, renault, VW bands that online sites offer.
