You can be the named driver on any amount of cars, its just if you decide to do what you're proposing (which is technically illegal as i presume you will be the main driver of the Polo?) and you have an accident, the insurers can void you're insurance if they have reason to believe you are the main driver. Wouldn't risk it to be honest

Depends who mainly drives your car. If it's mainly you, then it's not kosher (they call it "fronting"), if it's mainly him, then he's the main driver.

Mm i would be the main driver but other's would drive it as well, depending on how much it would save me whether it's worth putting my dad as the main driver!

No insurance will cover me with modifications for a decent price so looking for ways around it! :(

one of the best ways i found was to do it through a multi-car policy

your dad can only have his no claims on one policy i tried its mega cheap with his no claims and then got told could not put his no claims on and it was not much cheaper then me on my own.

If they suspect you of fronting which is what your planning then your insurance is practically worthless.

V5 is not proof of ownership but in the event of an accident they will look at that, your name on it doesnt look good.

No claims is only usable on 1 vehicle. In certain cases this used to only be for the policy holder themselves and not the named drivers (some companies now count the named as gaining there own NCB)

And tbh there is no ways round anything on insurance, if its not declared then you are driving with no insurance (some insurance companies include stickers as a modification), if you have only just passed/learning i would give any modifications a miss for a while until you can afford to declare them. (as one unlucky CP'er has found out, the insurance companies do snoop around forums).

Best thing is be the main driver and gain your own no claims, then have your dad, mum, sister whatever as named drivers. Then start modding when your insurance is a bit more affordable.

Cheers for the feedback guys!

I'll just stay under my own name i guess and build up my no claims.. Bit gutted i can't lower the car but it's not worth the risk in the end!
