Cheap boost ftw!!!

Go for it eric!

So basically, if i fitted a turbo vaccum pot to my accuspark fitted dizzy, all id then need would be a renault 5 carb and a charger? (And obvs all piping ect)

It was the dizzy part i was confused about before!

Yes, but thinking about it, I'm not sure what vac can will fit the early dizzy :? If they're the same as the hydro engine dizzy's vac can then there's no problem 8-)

Can't even think what the early dizzy's look like, anyone got a pic for comparison?

Practically the same. It had a suppressor on the outside thought

isnt that rocco on a VW Heritage advert in PVW? :p

realllllly enjoyed that thread :)

I think i'll just be adpating the hyrdo dizzy to fit to be honest, shouldn't be hard.

I've looked at them side by side to see if this was possible before, and it's possible to machine the late dizzy down to the right diameter for the early head, but the actual rotating shaft sticks out much further from the mounting face. So the options are to either space the dizzy out from the head (meaning machining it down was a waste of time anyway), or finding a way of shortening the part of the shaft which protrudes out of the dizzy.

Hope that makes some sort of sense  You'll probably need to look yourself to know what I mean.

Edit; sorry for spamming your thread Winst

The vac can does fit the early dizzy. as I fitted an early standard can to my hydro dizzy to sell it :)

I always thought it was a HH but I never checked. after looking I found out its a GK. which worried me a alittle until Arun informed me they are pretty much the same.. FEW!!

They have a low compression ratio, similar figures to the PY.

I thought the GK was a high compression engine?!?!

Its the Mk2 version of the 3F engine.

Isnt gk the 75bhp lump?

The GK is higher comp I'm sure. But you'll have the best stock cam for FI and inlet for its bigger diameter

It's a GF out of a mk1 golf lads. Same as an HH.

I was just coming to check hoping id not put GK. didn't take long to get pulled on it haha

I always thought the HH/GF and GK cam are the same? might be wrong!

I wouldn't mind trying a HK cam to see if it brought the T25 on boost alittle quicker

I always thought the HH/GF and GK cam are the same? might be wrong!

Correct lad :-D If you decide not to use the Saab dizzy I have an accuspark one here waiting for you ;)

Aww yeah!!!(just for the 3 bolt fitting lol) Forgot your runing fancy injection for a minute

All three of those cams are the same? That makes me a little more postitive that I have indeed been sold the correct cam.

Winston, are you using a t25 turbo then? If so, I'm not suprised you had lag issues using the standard 1.3

  • Author

Its a T2/25 hybrid but it has the same A/R's as a T25. Its no more laggy than when I had a T25 fitted to a 5 turbo. It comes on boost hard at about 3.5k and then the clutch slipped haha

Small clutch though as you said. Thats quite late on the boost. Or is it? I'm used to a diesel these days :? I hope I can find a way to bring it on a little earlier, mine will be a 1.4, so same as R5GTT

The mini boys with the 1275's/1293's/1303/'s/1380's run similar spec turbos to this tbh, T3 on my old metro was awful, didnt spool then when it did i had to change gear anyway! start all over.

Hmm, might go do abit more research on the mini forums then, some of the engine specs arent ''too'' advertureous so could find a decent turbo.

The MG turbos run a tiny T3 with low A/R's similar sized to a T25. A GT17's from a saab is ment to be good.
