Found out today I've got a ruptured ligament

Featured Replies

Well... when i was 15 i injured my knee playing football, was painful at the time and it swelled and stuff, felt a popping out sensation which lead to me having to pop back in my knee cap after wards, this has happened multiple times over the last 3 years and I've kind of lived with it, I've seen atleast 6 or 7 different doctors over this time to find out whats wrong with it, had an MRI scan and nothing came up, was eventually diagnosed with an undeveloped knee cap, and though meh cant play football but life goes on. I though a couple of weeks ago it was starting to hurt again after popping out once more and saw a knee specialist today, who played about with it, i told him about the knee cap diagnosis and he said 'no it wont be that i think youve ruptured your anterior cruciate ligament' which came as a bit of surprise especially after he looked at the MRI scan (now two years old) and said 'well its clear on here there is ligament damage', which was missed my a doctor when it was first done, so I'm going to have recontructive surgery to fix it, which is better than having a fucked knee at 18.

I thought i'd just share my story with you all hahah

If it stops your knee from killing then it sounds good to me!

You'll have morphine too maybe :-)

Guess they will be doing key hole surgery? I tore a knee ligament and damaged the cartilage in my right knee about 8 years back. Lived with it for a bit, was fine most of the time but it would randomly just go and I'd just drop like a sack of shit, hurt like hell too. Eventually I had key hole surgery which basically consisted of me being put to sleep then waking up with a fixed knee. I was expecting to be out of action for a bit but ended up raving new years eve away a couple of nights later, pretty sure I walked out of the hospital unaided too.

Still get a bit of ache from it at times and it is weaker than before the accident, but its shit loads better than it was before the surgery. I probably didn't help my case tho by not bothering doing the physyo exercises they told me to do afterward

I'm not one to make claims willy nilly, but I reckon you could get compo for that, medical misdiagnosis and all...

Mine screwed up a while ago. hurt like hell and like guy, just stopped working and i fell like a sack 'o' spuds! Been fine since which is proper strange?! I do walk 60 miles a week tho!

yeah keyhole for me in about three months they reckon? apparently its a pretty standard injury for footballers and is a pretty standard procedure and the rehab shit doesn't bother me as I'm pretty active anyway, its just the fact its been three years after thinking i was fucked for well the rest of my life, and then all of a sudden something can be done

my dad did the exact same thing when he was 25 which is a bit freaky haha

Unlucky you've got to wait 3 month for surgery mate I've got a knee antroscopy on Tuesday to fix stuff

About 3 weeks ago I crashed my bmx in a competition need fucked my knee.

I've torn the anterior cruciate ligament off the bone

Torn the medial collateral ligament off the bone

Torn the patella tendon

Torn the tendon begin my knee

Torn the miniscus cartilage

And fractured my tibia at the top. :(

This was 3 weeks ago need was put on a 4-5 week waiting list for an MRI scan to find out fully what I had done

After a week of waiting I paid £200 or a private MRI Scan last weds then took my results the NHS specialist this Monday just gone need he booked me straight in for surety this coming Tuesday

Glad I got the private scan or I would still be waiting for that and then they take upto 3 weeks to look at the results once it's done

Good luck anyways mate your lucky they can repair you acl mines fubared for life I've got to strengthen all the muscles around mine to take up it job after surgery and physio
