Why would you do that? All that effort for a diesel lump, and the fact that it's a death trap in a crash by today's standards

looks a bag of shit. £2500 would get you a much nicer and much more fun vehicle.

Obviously 2 guys that dont appreciate what a special vehicle this is. Yes 12k was a bit steep for a caddy in 1986, and you probabbly could buy something nicer, and maybe more fun, but not much that is rarer. If you like old skool water pumpers, this is a very cool car. Its no bag of shit, if you've seen most caddys that are un-touched you'd find them to be in far worse condition, with rot and dents all over them, these normally end up as belly scraping rat rides, and still go for £1500. This is actually very straight. If you read the description and looked at the pics, you'd see the GTI engineering plaque, and the original sales invoice. The other caddys with 'kits' on are known as the Caddy Sports, and were made after this, as an official VW production car, they are nowhere near as rare, but still pretty hard to get hold of, and command at least this much when they do appear for sale. I've seen one caddy sport go for nearly £5k.

It's still just a rusty caddy to me, I'd rather pay that much for a better example that isn't as rare. I've never seen the appeal in paying over the odds just so you can brag about how rare your car is. Caddys carry an almost retarded amount of scene tax anyway, some of the bags of shit I've seen sell for like £1500 begs the question, what kind of idiots are buying these cars?

I'm still not convinced, i do understand the rareaty of the vehicle but theres not much backing it up, and I'm still not sure on the price tag, a new escort rs turbo could be bought for £8495 in that year, that was a high price tag at the time but £12k for any car back in 1986 is very steep, all seems a little made up to me?

I still wouldn't say it was awesome. I can appericate the rarity but it doesn't make me want it.

Nearly every pre 90s car is a "death trap in a crash by todays standards"

And anyway I'd rather have a more modern 1.9td than a 1.8 petrol. Same smiles per mile but more cash in you wallet.

Oh, and for the record. I like VW's too.
